So. You're saying that Republicans lost elections (I assume you're talking about the House and the Senate control going to Democrats---???) because a small student group calling themselves Republicans offered a small number of $250 scholarships to people who were at least 1/4 Caucasian not to benefit whites, but instead as a political statement to show how ridiculous it is to give scholarships based on race.
I didn't see that theory coming, but we get all kinds of ideas here.
I strongly suspect that there were, instead other reasons that the Republicans lost.
It's a great example of being right intellectually (which republicans tend to do a lot) but completely bungling the social/emotional aspect of the issue.
You can't divorce yourself from either take if you're to progress with a just cause.

Well when you say "the Republicans" are doing this or "the Republicans" are doing that it sure looks like you're referring either to the NRC or the elected political leadership. In this case, it is neither. I'm not sure you can pin this on "the Republicans" as such.
I agree that there are a lot of sins we can pin on "the Republicans" but I don't think "the Republicans" own this one.
I read an article on this scholarship and the main purpose behind it is to protest race based scholarships which in my opinion are racist. I think a scholarship should be given for financial need, achievement, etc but should not be based on race or sex. This scholarship reminds me of the affirmative action bake sales held on some campuses where minorities paid less for baked items than white males. It is basically a protest using something absurd to point out what they feel is absurd.
It's not a matter of me making that connection, it's the punditry that jumps on this sort of thing... You can argue with me all you like, but the battle's going on and there's a reason for it.
