Elder Oaks: Religious Freedom under Attack

Heres a link to the full speech

I think it was an excellent talk, and a warning for our day.

Not surprisingly there is a huge uproar over his speech. Any news story about it with comments has been swarmed by anti-mormons (The Salt Lake Tribune is the worst).

I find it ironic, but also sad, that when someone warns about religious liberty being stifled , that they are threatened and attacked.

I also find it ironic that the haters find irony in the situation (They think we deserve the hostility because we are 'persecuting and taking rights away from the gays' or because we 'were against the civil rights movement').

This coming out soon after Harry Reid criticized the church leadership for it's involvement in Prop 8.

Well, I'm glad that the church is standing their ground. Elder Oaks is to be admired for making that comparison, because, while accurate, he must have been known the reaction it would meet.
