Just as in the Book of Mormon

The lamanites became more wise and righteous than the nephites.

In many ways the USA and Russia dynamic is similar.

This article in a Russian paper makes me want to cry
American capitalism gone with a whimper

Now, the Russian Government is clearly wrong in some aspects of world affairs, but I have to agree that the people there see what we are doing more clearly then we are.

I have participated in 2 tax parties in Salt Lake City recently, but I still feel helpless.

I think, as Lundie frequently says, that it's too late to change the direction, that we can only control how we land. That doesn't mean we stop trying, though. I think that next election I will definitely walk districts for the Constitutional party. And you're right: there are very many righteous people in Russia. That doesn't mean that they aren't headed down the wrong path too, just that they've taken a temporary rest stop while the US is barreling towards the final destination, asking if we could run towards it instead of being carried in the handbasket.

I think Ive used this parable here before, but imagine, if you would, a group of rafters paddling and cruising down a river. Their guide calls to them its time to turn around and paddle back upstream.  It gets dangerous up ahead.  But the current is flowing faster now, and the ride is much more fun and exciting, so most of the rafters just ignore the warning and keep on going.Soon enough, the current becomes swifter, and the guide shouts a second warning to the people in the rafts.  Too late now to get back upstream. Just get to the shore, he cries out. A waterfall is just around the bend. Then they hear the roaring sound of the waterfall. Then it comes in sight.  In panic, the rafters try to paddle for the shore.  Their guide no longer shouts to them to paddle ashore. Its no use.  All he can tell them now is to rig the rafts for the safest possible splashdown.

I certainly hope we are all doing our best now to follow the Prophets admonitions of preparedness and food storage.  That may well be a major key now to our safest possible splashdown.

I believe that if church members generally had obeyed the admonitions and pleadings of Presidents McKay, Clark, Romney, and Benson back as late as the 1960s to work to bring our government into compliance with the US Constitution in the tradition of the Founders, which I remember very well, the Lord would have intervened as necessary and helped us to paddle back upstream. Thru the 1970s and possibly all thru the 1980s there was still time to get to the shore.  But Americans, including most Latter-day Saints, failed to awaken to their "awful situation" and allowed the "secret combination" President Benson warned us about in October 1988 to get above us. (Ether 8:21-26)  Now we need to rig for the safest possible splashdown. I believe the first "beast" mentioned in Revelation 13 will do just as John said it would, which I think will include the so-called "cleansing of America". Following the demise of that "beast", as prophesied by John, a "remnant" will resurrect the principles of the US Constitution, which will, as prophesied by several latter-day prophets and apostles, become the governing system for the entire world during the Millennium.

Pt314 stated "I have participated in 2 tax parties in Salt Lake City recently, but I still feel helpless."  Just that alone may have been a bigger contribution to the awakening to others to our "awful situation" than you realize.  People make mental note of efforts like that.  Late last year most of those people who knew I was a write-in candidate for the US Congress for the Constitution Party, and was active in the party and the John Birch Society thought I was a screwball.  But now, since a lot more feathers are hitting the fan, a few of those same people (all in church) have have sought me out and given me the chance to explain what in know of our "awful situation", how we got into it, and what can be done now.  So every little bit counts.

I am starting to feel something happening right now. People seem more open to constitutionalist ideas at the moment. I think whats going on has woken people up somewhat.

The John Birch Society thought you were a screwball, whoa.

As I was reading the 3rd chapter of 3 Nephi, Giddianhi's letter to Lachoneus gave me some insight into the "war" we are in today.

Many of the intellectual critics of the Church (both inside and out) really do get condescending with the Brethren. This is especially true of the SSA issue and equality for gays in the arena of marriage.  They write letters, they march, they give interviews.  Their premise of "we are right, you are wrong, and you will eventually come to reason and unite with us" is very similar to the spirit of that letter in 3 Nephi.  There is a devilish, almost passive hostility in the wording and I see it today.  Even the robber's demands for rights to the governement are in parallel to the demands of gay advocacy groups for "rights" to marriage.

But the Brethren are like Lachoneus in that they do not fear the demands of robbers, but fear God and strive to prepare the Saints for the tribulations ahead.

You know, that really comforts me that we have leaders that aren't blown about by every wind of doctrine. If homosexual behavior is wrong (and it is), then it will be wrong tomorrow, and a year from now, and a century from now. It doesn't matter if the government passes mandatory homosexual marriage for everyone, it will still be wrong and the church will fight it.

Ahh, that makes more sense.

I feel the same way. It is one of the few things that comforts me when I read that Washington D.C is now into recognizing S.S Marriage and that Massachusetts is suing the Federal Government over the Defense of Marriage Act.
