Sen. Specter is going to become a Democrat. Is anyone surprised? He already was in everything but name.

AZ Senator McCain considered switching to the D-Party a few years ago, and made no secret of it.

And yet we were encouraged to vote for McCain just so that a Democrat wouldn't be in office.
Really, there's no significant difference between the parties anymore. Show me an issue, and I can probable find a way that the Republicans have been caving in to the Democrat side more and more. From abortion, gun control, socialized medicine, defense, spending, etc. Republican positions are pretty much just "Democrat lite".

Do you remember which prominent LDSs supported McCain in spite of his known socialist leanings?
