I paid $1.99 per gallon for gas today. What are prices like where you're at? BTW, I have no doubt that prices will shoot up again.

$2.24 yesterday. For some reason Idaho's gas prices rise really fast and fall really slowly. Filled the van for under $40, instead of almost $70 though! I was happy about that! I'm already hearing about gas creeping back up in some places.

This lull is scheduled by the oil companies and meant simply to keep people from following through with their various committments for gas conservation, which will provide huge profits in the spring and summertime. (I think my conspiracy theory has a lot of merit).
It is all correlated to the price of oil, which has plummetted. I remember Steve Forbes saying three years ago there was an oil bubble just like the housing bubble. The high price of oil was not driven up solely by low supply and high demand. He claimed oil futures were driving it up and it was unsustainable and would eventually drop. With a massive recession taking hold, it does not suprise me. I hope it keeps dropping to give us cheap gas and make thugs like Hugo Chavez look bad in their countries
My prediction: gas will hover around $2 until memorial day, then go back up to the high 2.70-2.90. I think gas will stay below 3.50 for a couple of years.

The last time I got gas it was about $1.80 in No VA. (I am about 30 miles south of DC). But prices do rise as I get closer to work.
I need to go get gas tonight, I think the current price is about $1.69 or so. Will report back!
In yeserday's Wash Post someone suggested having a stable gas price 9I think he suggested $2.50) and gas tax of 50cents/gallon. His rationale was this would help regulate/stabilize the price of gas. I am not completely sure I support his idea, esp w/that high of a tax.
Well I got it, $1.67- and a 25 cent discount for buying the Thursday auto car wash. Of course a problem is that I had an old expired carwash coupon (from August) for the carwash I never used- when I had time or thought about it, it always seemed to be raining, so the benefits kind of balance out. Oh well!
Well, as much as I don't like high gas prices, I think that they need to be able to set gas prices - or anything else for that matter - at whatever the market will bear. If costs go up, the companies can't raise prices to compensate. If costs go down, they have no need to lower gas prices to pass the savings on to consumers. And when you consider cost you have to consider the entire chain. If your local gas station has to spend $100,000 to comply with new underground tank laws (yes, it has happened in the past) then there's no way that they can raise prices to make up for that. They might go under, and then you have fewer gas stations to choose from.

Diesel is still above $2 a gallon where I live. But I buy gas for $1.47. I think that this will go on for a few months, and then prices will go soaring up. I don't think that this will help the economy a great deal. To use a car analogy, it doesn't help to add a lot of gas to the tank if your car has a cracked head.

I paid $1.29 today. Of course it was in an out of the way gas station that only accepts cash.
