Kids "helping" their parents

We moved a lot of heavy stuff into the new house yesterday. We're almost done, and I'll be glad to have it over with. I was really glad to finally get the piano moved. It's an old, heavy piano, and we had to move it down a flight of stairs.
Anyway, to get to the point, my three year old really wanted to help. He would scream and cry if he was kept inside by his brother or mom. He was happy if he was carrying something, even if it was a makework task. It was more work to give him tasks than it would have been if he wasn't helping, but it made him happy and built character.
I was mentally comparing that to our service in the church and to our fellow human beings. It's not really help in the sense that the Lord couldn't have done that same thing; it's help in that it makes us happy and it makes us better people. So, I guess, in that sense we are doing something that the Lord couldn't do; we're reforming ourselves to be more like Him. He can't do that for us.

Gee - I have no idea what you're talking about.

I had a similar thought once when my 3-year-old was "helping" to unload the dishwasher. She wasn't tall enough to see into the silverware drawer, so she was just dropping things in wherever they went. I knew I'd have to go back and put things in their proper place, but that wasn't the point: she was learning how to work, feeling the satisfaction of contributing, and we were spending the time together. It occurred to me then that it's probably similar with Heavenly Father when we're in His service.

Exactly, Jen.
BTW, LM, your daughter manages the cute and innocent look very well. And look how much she helped!
