So what are your thoughts on the Democratic National Convention? A big deal? A big yawn? I'm hearing all sorts of news about it, since I live not too far away. A friend last week had relatives stay with him who were driving through the state on their way home; they couldn't find a hotel room, even the Wednesday before the convention. Do you think Hitlary will try to steal the nomination? I'm convinced she will try.

I'm just really glad I'm not in CO right now. All the Denver news channels are probably talking about it nonstop and I know I would find that to be very annoying. I have only a few random thoughts. I really doubt Hillary's got anything up her sleeve, but I could be wrong. I'm not impressed by Obama's VP pick, but that's hardly surprising. I really don't want to hear the blah, blah, blah of the speakers. I tend to be that way about politicians in general, but it's worse with when the political views expressed are so far from my own. Maybe this makes me borish, and it definitely hampers my political education, but there you have it.

The only thing I needed to know was the name "Slow Joe Biden", and I got that before the convention started.
I'm way south of Denver, but rarely partake of local news anyway, so it won't make much difference to me. The rainbow unicorns and peace marches will all happen between Denver and Boulder, all of it way north of me.

I work in Boulder, but I live about an hour north of where the DNC is being held. I don't watch local news, but I listen to talk radio, and it is inevitable that I get seep through from that.

I've been doing some analyzing and come to an amazing conclusion. Partisan political commentators and speakers at party conventions are identical to the WWE ringside announcers.
For the ladies, WWE is World Wrestling Entertainment, good old fake wrestling. It is the most watched show by males when it is on. How is that so? Are males simply idiots? Perhaps, but I've noticed they have a very specific formula in their broadcasts, which makes up for the poor acting and writing.
Each wrestler has a character that he portrays. The rebel, the selfish man, the heart of gold, and so forth. The ringside announcers are really the narrators, making sure that everyone follows the same, exact storyline. They accomplish this by repitition of adjectives and descriptions throughout the fight. They are so exact about this that Jimmy Wang Yang is never called Jimmy or Mr. Yang, but always Jimmy Wang Yang. The Cornfed Collosus, World's Largest Athlete, The Phenom, the Deadman, Irish Brawler, and so forth.
They ensure that everyone is on the same storyline and no one is allowed to think for themselves, otherwise you might think it is silly to watch. Last week when watching some political news shows, I noticed that all the partisan speakers and the other commentators did the exact same thing. They used the same talking points and repeated them over and over to ensure that no one thought differently. They are trying to force the rest of the country to follow their specific storyline so that no one thinks for themself and decides it is silly. Watch for this at the Deomcratic and Republican conventions. Look to see what storylines you already believe. Look to see if you can't influence others to follow your own chosen storyline.
(For clarification, a few other reasons men watch WWE are the pyrotechnics, dreams of being massively strong, the cameramen switch views whenever there is some sort of fake hit so that the violence looks more real, and they know they won't be bothered by women while watching.)
