I came across this article at Meridian Magazine recently. I thought it might be an interesting expansion to some of the previous discussions we've had about depression amongst LDS.
"Critics charge that the suicide rate in Utah is higher than the national average, and that this demonstrates that being a Latter-day Saint is psychologically unhealthy. As is often the case, critics don't tell the whole story."

Click on the link. Basically, the entire midwest has a higher than average suicide rate. Utah has a slightly lower rate than other midwest states. So, it could be argued that some factor about the midwest makes people commit suicide more often, but that the religiousity of the LDS in Utah mitigates that factor somewhat.
