That's quite a stretch...

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,356435,00.html

"Federal prosecutors turned to a novel interpretation of computer hacking law to indict a Missouri mother on charges connected to the suicide of a 13-year-old MySpace user.

Prosecutors alleged that by helping create a MySpace account in the name of someone who didn't exist, Lori Drew, 49, violated the News Corp.-owned site's terms of service and thus illegally accessed protected computers."

Translation: We need to update our laws, so people who obviously do something so harmful can be charged and tried.

Come on legislatures - get on the ball. Computers are a reality now.

There is more to this story. If this lady actually did what she is accused of she deserves everything she gets.

I agree that this lady needs to be punished in some manner. I've read about the backstory here. I just don't think they are applying the right law (as LM pointed out, the right law doesn't exist.) And I'm concerned at the manner in which they are applying the law in this circumstance.
