Dream Interpretation

I'd like all your advice, please.  I had this dream and I need to know what it means.  Even if you aren't qualified in any way, I'd like your input.

I was walking my dog - who's a mutt but basically looks like a 6 month old German Shepherd.  We came up to this fence and there was this Polar Bear and he became very aggressive and growling toward my dog and then jumped the fence and started humping my dog.  My dog's a male.  I just sort of stood there cuz I didn't want the Polar Bear to turn on me, of course.

What do you think this means?

Your dog, which looks like a fierce guard dog but is also a mixture of many breeds represents the United States.

The polar bear represents the melting arctic ice pack, and it is angry at the US because of all the CO2 we pump into the atmosphere.

Clearly your dream was caused by global warming. We are going to reap what we have sown. If only we had listened to Al Gore before it was too late.

(Why your sub-conscious included the humping part is anyone's guess.)

OR

Your dog represents the US and the polar bear represents all the citizens of Mexico that want to come here to partake of our prosperity. They are angry because we are building that fence, so they jump the fence and attack the US in a dominating and humiliating way.

OR

Your dog represents your food storage--at first glance it seems like it is sufficient, but because you do not have sufficient fire power in your possession, it really is more bark than bite. The polar bear represents the hungry mobs that will roam Tooele when civilization falls and they will overpower your defenses and take what they please. Unless you heed the warning and get a rottweiler.

OR

It could have something to do with your calling at church, but I don't know what that is so I can't say for sure. Are you the primary chorister, by chance?

You're having identity issues.  First, you aren't sure if you're a German shepherd, or some other type of dog.  Then you have a polar bear in Utah--obviously out of place.  Then you have a male on male action.  To cap it off, you're uneasy that this polar bear will turn his amorous attentions to you.

Clearly, you are unable to identify who you are.  Who are you?  Are you a dog that attacks?  Or the kind that rolls over and takes it in the belly?   Where are you going?  The polar bear in Utah hints that you don't know your destination.  What is your purpose in life?  You think your purpose is to be a mother, but the male on male action indicates you're unsure if you should continue making babies or pursue other interests.

Or it could all mean that you're weird and your life is boring so your subconscious decided to liven up your dreams.

I don't think the dog represents your dog, it represents an aspect of your personality. Probably the aggressive, protective part (which is generally associated with a male personality but that is neither here nor there). The polar bear represents something that you are being confronted with that you feel inadequate to deal with. Perhaps something that looks pure (from the white color of the bear) or seems cold and distant (from the nature of the bear)? However, you don't feel physically threatened, just emotionally threatened -- hence the 'humping' rather than attacking -- but you are afraid that if you do anything the situation will become worse.

dilbert's silliness is pretty relevant, I think. :)

It seems pretty straightforward to me, but then again I have a degree in psych and many years of experience with psychotherapy.

I think it means you own a dog.... you watched some polar bears on a nature show... and you ate a little too much pizza before bed.

I have to admit I don't place too much stock in dream analysis. Sometimes dreams are significant - after all, the scriptures talk about prophetic dreams - but usually, I see it as your brain pressing "shuffle" on the day's events.

The bear represents Russia, the german shepherd mutt represents Germany, and the Russians are going to ravage the land of Germany for all its natural resources. You and others will stand idly by because you don't want to be the next country invaded by Russia.

In order to interpret this dream, I need to first gague your understanding of dominance behavior in animals.  Before this dream, did you already understand that aggressive males will occasionally display such humping behavior as a way to be dominant over another?  If yes, the dream interpretation doesn't really have any sexual aspect to it at all.

Question two - in your dream, were you worried about not helping your dog - or did you just consider him the person that was supposed to be the one fighting?  If you had thoughts about whether you should help or not, then the dog represents a male member of your family - a hubby or teenage boy?  Maybe a brother or cousin?  If you were just standing there because it was the dog's job to fight the bear, then the dog is part of you.

Wow! You people are utterly amazing! worship.gif

Dilbert and beef had me laughing so hard, I couldn't even focus. clap.gif

Dyany- I was thinking, Holy cow, this could make sense... yikes... then I saw that she was a shrink and had the gut feeling to do this sprint.gif

Dianoia- See, I am wondering about the whole significance of dreams, too. I remember reading that Heber C. Kimball was of the mind that every dream was significant and you should always pray for the interpretation. He was quite the man for prophesying about the future.

Arbi- Standing idly by? What! Actually that reminds me of a different dream I had where I was substitute teaching and there was a shooter. I took off running... going ahead of some of the kids and everything. I woke up really ashamed of myself wondering, Would I really do that? What a total coward. disbelief.gif

mirk- No comment.

LM- Question #1- yes, I knew that. This dog of mine humps the kids' friends sometimes which totally pisses me off. Maybe I was hoping he'd get paybacks...? confuse.gif Question #2 is interesting... basically I was wanting to stay out of it, like it's his problem to deal with. In fact, as the bear was leaping the fence to attack us, and he turned just on the dog, I was very relieved. Yes! He's after the dog! I know, I'm a total jerk.

That is pretty tame to many of my dreams.

Anyone ever had spiritual or revelatory dreams?

The night before our last road trip I dreamt that I needed to recheck the weather before we left. So I did and we missed a good-sized storm. Maybe this isn't what you were thinking of, though?

2. You might meet one someday.

Eek...I know several people get into vampires... I'm not one of them.

I had a dream that our ward was going back and forth between two bishops. Our previous bishop was our current bishop and the bishop we have now was about to become our bishop again... I was really bummed, because I much preferred the other one. But I was really more bummed than I should've been, cuz he really hasn't afftected me THAT much... Every year we were going to switch back and forth... Must've been a shortage of bishops... confuse.gif

I dreamt I got fired from my job. I was really ticking people off and "acting out" - weird. But I was consoled somewhat because I was able to cash out my stocks which would give me about 10 months of income.

Then I also dreamt I tracked down this horse we'd bred back when I was about 11. Her name was Zi - rhymes with Pie - and it was just like finding your long lost kid... her mother was the best horse in the world and I still get a pain in my stomach because we sold her.

Ok, here's one from a few nights ago. It may have been partially drug-induced.

Big, and I do mean BIG, black pitbull dog attacks me. It bites my arm and instead of trying to get away or not be bit the only thing I can think to do is reach the arm it's going after straight down the dog's throat. I feel some internal organs and start squeezing them as hard as I can.

That's it. I woke up.

Okay, last night I dreamed about a neighborhood and houses. I know... this is my "standard" dream it seems like... lots of houses and lots of neighborhoods. Anyway, these houses were all really small - about the size of small camping trailers - two rooms, usually. And people did just fine in them. Most people were single I think and I didn't notice any kids around. I just LOVED these houses! I thought to myself when the time comes, I'm TOTALLY going to live in one of these! All the clutter and extra "stuff" just wasn't there! It was great just having what you needed without all the huge spaces of "things"!!!!

Houses are usually representative of self or selves, though the fact that you saw these from the outside probably represents your view of other people. The size and lack of clutter probably represents people who seem to have less emotional/psychological clutter and complexity in their lives, and you are envious of that. Though the small size also represents lack of knowledge and experience, so you would have to recognize that as a trade-off.

I saw the house from inside *and* outside... outside, it looked like a sideways truck bed cover or something cuz it was so small, but once inside I was like, "Hey! This is totally workable!" I'll tell you, I have this vision of when I'm an old widow ... I'll go live in a tipi or a yurt in one of my kids' backyards - just need a bowl, a fork, knife and spoon and books. Seriously. thumbsup.gif

I've dreamt about every possible kind of house, btw... mansions, Victorians in awesome neighborhoods (think the South), and also great houses that were almost entirely destroyed by something... you could just make out their former grandeur. I'm usually about 1/3 the time inside the house and 2/3 the time outside the house. But there it is. Another house dream. shrug.gif

Knowledge at the price of emotional baggage... interesting... confuse.gif

I dreamed last night that I was in a big, contemporary-style mansion, lying in the bottom bunk of a bunk bed. I saw a lot of dead bodies, mostly floating in these glass water tanks with their eyes open, but clearly dead; and most of them were personified by a woman I can still clearly see but I don't know who she is. So I'm lying there and realizing that the people who killed all of these other people (all women I think?) will wake up in the morning and know that I'm there, and alive, and that I know what they did. And my SIL that lives with me now is in the kitchen talking with someone, unaware of the danger ahead of us. I'm trying to plan out an escape for us, but I know that the doors and windows have alarms and there are armed guards outside. And I keep seeing images of these dead people.

Then the dream kind of morphed into us walking through a garden, but it still felt scary and ominous and I was looking over my shoulder. Actually I've dreamt about the same kind of garden before, now that I think about it. I've also dreamed about being in a big mansion thing with lots of people before, but that time I witnessed my brother getting shot and his body falling into the water, then the same thing happened to me. Then we somehow got out of the pool and we were on the run.

I wake up from these dreams pretty upset and having to remind myself that they weren't real. The only thing that really gets rid of that feeling is talking to my husband and of course praying about it.

Okay, I have to laugh, because I'm Miss Mocky-mocky about dream interpretations, but I admit I have recurring house dreams too.

Really vivid ones - I could almost draw floor plans for houses I dreamt about years ago - yet typically I rarely remember my dreams.

Each time the house is different, but almost always it's one we're either looking to buy, or have recently bought (although occasionally we've lost our house because of weird financial decisions my husband has made, and are renting something industrial and/or strange).

And almost always the house is HUGE, and it gets larger and larger the more I explore, because there are inevitably hidden rooms that I didn't know about. And the rooms are always full of STUFF, antique furniture stuffed to the brim, one house was full of fabrics and craft materials, another had lots and lots of fireplaces in rows....

You know, the more I think about it, I have had a LOT of house dreams. Sometimes the houses are beautiful, sometimes they're creepy and feel evil, sometimes they're falling apart because of neglect, sometimes they end up being connected to major malls or swimming pools or subway systems or something.

Strange.

OK, how about this one?

I kept having these temple dreams, but the temple was like this large lecture hall, then it turned into a convention type centre, then it changed from being the temple to being this big gala event honoring the RCMP and I met a mountie (played by Paul Gross) (who happens to be hot) and we fell in love and got married and had 2 kids and he became the Prime Minister of Canada and then there was this Canadian food crisis and the people were starving but they refused to ask the U.S. for help but the U.S. was the only one who COULD help so we were trying to work through this and then I started getting blackmailed because I threw away part of a donut in the middle of this food crisis (it was probably a Tim Horton's) and I refused to pay because I thought it was silly but all the Canadians got really mad at me so me and my husband had a big fight and I decided to leave but I found out he was cheating on me with some makeup model so I came back and we (the makeup model and I) had some huge fight in this department store type place and I threw her out the window to her death and then I found out that my husband really had hired her to kill me so I was glad he wasn't having an affair but upset at the same time so I got in a fight with HIM and threw him down a flight of stairs and the mounties had to come investigate and he kept not really being dead which made me happy because I still loved him but sad because he was messing up my chances for a new start with all these cute mounties and then it got weird and I woke up.

Yay crazy dreams! You know I've always got one.

Vampire one. Which is weird. I don't usually do vampires. But anyway, I was a waitress and a vampire came in, and suddenly I was invisible, so I was safe because he couldn't see me. Then I shifted characters to another vampire outside, and there was a big vampire fight. And apparently we were vampires bitten by spiders because we could also climb walls and things. Fun, fun.

I had a climbing dream last night. Well, climbing and falling. I would climb, climb, climb, then suddenly I would free fall. You know that feeling while sleeping as if you are truly falling and you wake with a start. Then back to sleep and climbing, climbing, climbing, then suddenly falling again. All night long.

Oh and it's that cake where you pour a can of diet pop into a cake mix. I used tangerine Diet Rite in a triple chocolate fudge mix, and you can't taste the tangerine at all. Still not exactly healthy, but it's lower in fat. Until you put frosting on it.

Self-fulfilling prophecy!

It's a Weight Watcher's thing. The one I heard calls for a can of diet Coke in a chocolate cake mix, then bake for 5 minutes shorter than the regular time. I don't have diet Coke, and exposing aspartame to heat freaks me out a little, so I decided to try my Splenda-sweetened stuff. It didn't rise as high, but it's really moist and very good. No hint of "diet" flavor in it at all.

New one: I went back to college, and I was going to a job interview. When I got there, I realized I was only wearing one shoe. I was thinking this wasn't going to look good, but I might squeak by when I also realized that I brought an application but forgot my resume and references. I decided to forget the whole thing, so I left.

Out in the parking lot, I witness a huge car accident with a pedestrian. I go to help the guy out, but he's not hurt...but needs to pretend he is, so I help him limp to my car (he was leaning on my shoulder disproportionately hard for a guy who wasn't actually hurt...and is a dream in the first place). I let him out of the car a little later.

I continue on to a ship. I walk to the front of the ship, and see the passengers taking their babies for a stroll...on the water. There's a whole little group of them swimming around with strollers floating next to them. One guy asks me to watch his baby, so I was playing with her on the deck... I can't remember after that, but... Weird.
