What is going on?

I am saddened. Yesterday was a great day... we had our stake pinewood derby and my son did OK and he was happy.

Then we were invited to go to a baptism at the stake center. The baptism was great and the spirit was there but on the north end of the stake center things were different....

All of the YW in our stake along with their mothers were invited to be at the stake center for a dinner and then to watch the General YW broadcast. As I poked my head in the door to look around, I'm guessing that there were maybe 10 or 12 mothers and daughters there from our entire stake.

This morning I watched the broadcast on BYU TV online. It was marvelous.

What is wrong with parents that they don't see to it that their children are where they are supposed to be? If it had been YM with their fathers, our stake center would have been packed. What is going on with our YW and their mothers?

Glad I don't have to worry about it anymore, but I can imagine the new stake president showing up and seeing the low turnout and then thinking, wow, someone let things get really bad.... (BTW... last year the stake center chapel was full) anyway I'm wondering if this is just our stake or if it's happening church wide.

Don't let a single event be a sign of some 'trend'. It might have been accidentally poorly advertised in most wards, or many may have opted to watch it at home, or there might have been some big important school activity, or any of a number of things. I wouldn't worry about it, that is time wasted on negativity that, unless you have stewardship, you can do nothing about.

It's Spring break in these parts, and lots of families are out of town.

Maybe these conferences are now so numerous and so general that people just don't bother going. I mean there's ALWAYS going to be a feeling of the impersonal in such broadcasts.

I went to the broadcast last night. I felt bad as I wasn't invited, I'm not a yw and don't have a daughter that age (or any child! :) ) We have 7 wards and 2 branches (one is a young singles branch), the chapel was full. The stake presidency was there, as was a couple of the bishops.

I figured instead of reading online or in the Ensign I can go in person. I am glad I went, the sisters from my ward made me feel welcome. I felt that why should I miss out hearing this in person just cause I'm not in young women's and just because I don't have a daughter that age. What if there was a woman who only had son's or had no child?? I alluded to this thought in the Nauvoo thread about General Conf predictions. But to me, we should get to hear these words too- the priesthood gets twice a year meetings, so why not all of us as women? (ie it shouldn't just be reserved for those lucky enough to work w/young women or who have daughters of that age)

Also two of our 11 year old activity day girls went w/their moms. One mom said they invited themselves! (unlike me, they asked permission!)

Really was a good conf. Hopefully in those wards where there wasn't good attendance, people will show the videol

Honestly I hope some day they will make this an open invite to all women or those who love/care for young woman. I think it would be good for the older activity day girls to attend as part of YW prep. And what about those yw who don't have a mom who will attend w/them- yeah, they can get other yw leaders or a friend's mom to go. But it might be nice for men to feel welcome to bring their daughters in those situations, likewise women in the reverse situation to bring their sons to priesthood.

I realize in those situations we need the ward to step in and help so the kids aren't made to feel uncomfortable. Anyway, just a partially developed thought.

I think you may have answered your own question...

This morning I watched the broadcast on BYU TV online.
I am less motivated to go to the "trouble" of going to the stake center when I know I can turn on the TV or internet at a later time to watch the same program.  Unlike the priesthood session, which is never rebroadcast, the YW and RS meetings are easily watched in the comfort of home.

Yeah, TV's much better. thumbsup.gif

Plus, there's just so dang many meetings. I was truly sick of that yesterday. shrug.gif

Our stake center is a good distance away and with all the meetings this week I wouldn't have been surprised if it was less than well attended. There were meetings nearly every night this week including some at the Stake. Some adult ward members were gone every night except for Monday. I can see why some parents may have decided to skip it and watch it on T.V. Even if they skipped that one there was still a primary activity Saturday during the day that required another road trip. With fuel being so expensive........

Lots of people plan roadtrips on Conference weekend. I think a lot of people just figure they'll read the ensign. Then of course do they? I think not. So in a way they are planning a Road Trip to Hell!!! Muwahahahahaha!

Dude. I always read the Ensign. Sorry, but I just can't get used to the yawn.gif delivery at Conference. Someone says something even marginally funny, a small chuckle goes through the crowd and it's like the highlight. HELP ME!!!!
