One of the benefits of living a gospel life style - you don't have to worry about paternity.

I'm talking about actually living gospel standards, not just claiming to. It is extremely unlikely that, if you have no sex before marriage and are faithful once married, that you will ever be unsure about whether a kid is yours or not. And that's what I'm talking about - the personal assurance that I will never be hit with that problem. If some woman comes forward claiming that her baby is from me, I know immediately that it's not true, because I've lived gospel standards.

What if you suspect your wife may have strayed and the new baby looks like something isn't right. Happened to a guy in our ward. The idiot stayed with her though and is raising the kid as his own. I would have kicked her to the curb.

I counseled the fellow to stay with his wife if she would repent. (She didn't) ... and they got divorced. She is still a non member and is pregnant with #2 with the same fellow and still unmarried to him.
We attended HIS wedding to his new wife this past weekend. What a blessing for him, as the new wife is SOOOO much better than the former who cheated. Luckily there were no other kids.

Well, you do have a point about straying wives. But I guess my point was that, even in such a situation, you don't have to worry about personal culpability for the problem. That is, you are not in big trouble if you find out that your wife's kid came from you. You are, of course, emotionally devastated if you find out that it's not your kid, but then, it's your wife's sin, and not yours. On the other hand, you are frequently legally liable for the support of your wife's kid even if it's not yours. I've read of cases where the wife was able to get child support from her former husband even when it was proved by DNA that the child wasn't his, because the child had grown up thinking that this person was his dad. So I guess what I'm saying is that living a righteous life is no guarantee that you won't be affected by other people's bad decisions, but at least you will be above reproach. You're the only one that you have control over anyway.

I guess it's possible, but extremely unlikely that an IVF kid could not be from the dad in question, but then it would be a case of laboratory mixup and not impropriety on anyone's part. I've actually heard of cases where a black baby is born to white parents. I can imagine there being a lot of questioning about fidelity in a situation like that, but there are cases where latent black genes simply weren't manifest for a few generations, but suddenly pop up. So a black baby can be born to perfectly faithful white parents.

So is the Church against donating sperm to sperm banks? I mean, for struggling students and stuff it's pretty good money - between that and giving plasma.

The quick answer is yes, they are against it. I haven't found documentation for that yet, but they are.
As for donating plasma... I went in to do that once and passed out at the anemia finger prick phase. They didn't want my plasma after that.
