Parents allow 36 year old to move into their 16 year old daughter's room

The parents in this article just disgust me. It seems like they gave their daughter no rules or boundaries. At 16, she's going to pubs and meeting men. She met a 36 year old man and decided to shack up with him.

that girl's mom said: "I don't know what she gets up to in that respect now. I don't ask because I don't want to know the details."

stunning as her 16 year old is already on her 4th lover. wonder if she has spoken to her daughter about diseases that come w/this lifestyle,e tc

And how sad that the article says that at 16, this girl and this man spend most of his time away from work in her room.

I can respect that the parents don't wish to alienate their daughter. I just hope t hey are there for their daughter when/if this relationship breaks up. And shame on the article's author for romanticicizing this man- ie by stating the girl's comparisons of him to her former boyfriends/lovers.

The entire thing is really appalling on several accounts.

My husband would want to castrate him.

Would you stop your husband from castrating him?

So, this is a slight derail.  The article talks about how the dad accepted the situation faster than the mom.  What is up with dads these days?

My best friend's 16 y/o daughter has friends that dress as if showing cleavage (which doesn't describe all that you are seeing) is a requirement.  What father would allow his teenage daughter to leave the house wearing clothes that show all her assests?  Seriously?  I'm sure a girl or two probably sneaks out of the house, but most of these girls are with their fathers when I see them.  I seriously don't understand how a father (or mother) could be satisfied with that.  My bff husband almost took his daughter's head off once when she tried to leave with a low cut blouse without a shirt under it.

I just don't understand parent's reluctance to say no to their kids.  Can anyone help me to understand why parents don't want to be parents, but instead want to be their "friend?"

Only because we need him here and not in jail. But I'd be at the police station faster than you can say "statuatory rape".

Oh, beefche, I'm with you. I developed early and wasn't quite aware of what my clothes choices meant. I tried to dress modestly but because of how things fit I'd sometimes miss the mark. Once my dad, who was always gentle, gave me a talking to I'll never forget. He said he knew how boys' minds worked, and I didn't. . . so I needed to listen to him and believe him when he told me that I didn't want to leave the house dressed that way. Now that I'm married I get it, but then I didn't. I'm glad that I listened to him (for the most part, I wasn't perfect) even though it made it harder to find clothes.

I know ways and places we can hide the bodies where they will never find him! biggrin

Seriously though, this guy's a child molester!

I think that the problem in his case is that he's judging whether or not she is a child by her physical development, and not her emotional development as he should.

So if the Mom's right that she would just take off and leave parents in the dust, do you just say, "Take off" then? Something like, Our standards don't include sleeping together, the least you could do is sneak. If you're going to go ahead with this, well, have a nice life. ???

I would hope that she not leave, but in that situation, I'm not sure what the options are. Could you call the cops and have the older guy arrested for kidnapping?
Remove the sexuality from the situation and see how you feel about it. Say your daughter comes to you and says that she's going to start robbing banks, and that if you give her grief about it she is going to move out. Later she asks if she and her friend can base their bank robbing ventures out of her room (counting the money, examining photos and planning the next robbery, etc). Of course you would give her grief about robbing banks. Of course you wouldn't let her plan robberies from her room.

I think that might depend on the state, but I'm pretty sure most places 16 with 36 is statutory rape.
