Ron Paul is cutting back his national campaign staff and concentrating on his congressional primary. He's not exiting the race, and he'll still campaigning for every remaining Republican primary, but he's no longer talking of winning, because with Romney out of the race there is next to zero chance of a brokered convention. Also, Ron Paul will not be making a third party run. I'm sad. Ron Paul would have made an excellent president. He was a Republican choice that I felt good about. It was good to have a Republican running that I could support. Now I'll have to go back to third parties to find someone that I can support. I simply will not vote for evil. I'm done with that. To me, voting for evil is the same thing as choosing evil. So I'm eager to see who the Constitution Party will field as their candidate, and I hope that Ron Paul wins his congressional race.

I am officially making a decision to vote for Hillary Clinton. Wait, hear me out. . . once I decide on a candidate, they pull out of the race; so you'll thank me later!

I thought that Obama said some really interesting things here in Washington state about removing tax loopholes for companies that export jobs from the USA.

I just wish we could get a flat tax and cut all of the loop holes. I know that would bless my life.... but it would put some accountants out of business.

A long time ago I actually used to be for a flat tax, but I've realized over time that it would be a bad idea. For one thing, you still get the question of, what is income? In your case, Mahonri, you have to pay for materials, for your employees, and a whole host of other things before you see any money from your practice. That's where all the loopholes come in. Did you have any continuing education to improve your dentistry skills? Well, that's a business expense, and lowers your actual income. Do you see where I'm coming from? Even if tomorrow they passed a law saying that everyone payed 30% of their income, you still have to determine what income is. So you'll have a whole host of laws, just as you do now, saying what you can deduct. So, I say, just go back to what they did in the beginning - apportion each state an amount that they have to raise in taxes for the federal government. They will then take their census data and determine how much each person owes. Say, for instance, that they assign Arizona to collect 100 million dollars, and Arizona has 1 million people (just guessing, I actually have no clue how many people live in Arizona). Each person would then owe $100, regardless of income. Then you don't have the deductions game to play. Everyone knows their tax burden and pays it accordingly. Using this system along with tariffs the US managed to somehow fund itself for over half its existence. We managed to fight wars and everything without an income tax. Another point is that, not too long after the income tax was implemented, the size of government started to balloon. True, if we go back to the old system a huge amount of government services will have to go away. But I view that as a positive. For those who work for an employer, consider this for a moment. Look at the deductions part of your paycheck. Imagine yourself writing out a check to the government on every paycheck for the amount that they now deduct. Wouldn't you be pretty angry about the amount? Unless we elect people actually willing to cut the size of government, instead of what they usually call cuts (where they just don't increase the size of something as fast), then we could talk about changing our ruinous taxation system.

I think we should abolish the income tax for anything that isn't specified in the Constitution, or deemed Constitutional according to a strict constructionist view.

Your ploy didn't work, Jen, she only fired her campaign manager.
