President Hinckley's Funeral

Did you get the chance to watch or listen to President Hinckley's funeral? I was working, but listened to it on my walkman. I was deeply touched several times during the ceremony, and the closing hymn was beautiful. Any thoughts?

President Monson just looks like God's Holy Prophet... the mantle has fallen upon him.

What a great man. Reminds me of when Pres. McKay passed on... and President Kimball.

We had Stake Conference today and our visiting authority was Elder Cecil Samuelson. He spent a lot of the time in all three meetings (adult session, leadership and general sessions) speaking about the divine plan and how the succession from one prophet to another takes place. I know President Monson is where he is supposed to be at this time and place in the earth's history.

I loved Pres. Eyring's talk.

I chose not to watch it. I hate funerals and didn't want to get emotionally worked up. I'm not a crier, don't like crying, and knew I would if I watched it.

Our family dressed up and we went and sat in the Stake Center and watched it. It was really good. I cried a lot. I guess I am still trying to come to grips with aspects of his leaving me. Strange how one man that I've never met can impact me for the better in such a substantial way... I agree Pres. Monson will be a great prophet, I've been sensing the stirrings of greatness over the past few conferences and ensign addresses, but honestly, during the funeral and the press conference today in which they announced his Presidency, it just felt like he was still trying to come to grips with missing president Hinckley.

The press conference was interesting.

Pres. Monson looked tired and he stumbled a little. I'm certain that the last week has been exhausting for him. He's got two great young men as his counselors.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bishop Burton as the next apostle, but wouldn't it be great if someone from latin america were called?

I think they should call Elder Manzhos as the next apostle.

giggle.gif Only in the Church can two men 74 and 67 be 'the young guys.' Sorry, that just struck me as funny.

I had the thought cross my mind as well that wouldn't it be interesting if now was the time for a non-white man to be called to the apostleship. Not that I worry about it much though. I know that whomever the Lord wants to be there, will be.
