Scientists think that they've found a way to get the body's immune system to attack cocaine in the bloodstream, thus reducing its effect over time.

Yup, this could potentially be huge. Can you imagine how wonderful it would be for smokers to quit smoking with something like this? I knew there must have been a reason that oh so long ago the brethren asked us to pray for a cure to addiction.

Have you ever seen on cops where some guy overdoses on heroine and is clinically dead? Then the paramedics give him a shot of stuff to counteract the overdose and the guy just wakes up like he was asleep.
I was asking an EMT about it and he told me about a guy that went out three times and they just gave him some more of the drug to counteract the heroine. Each time he woke up they told him he had died but he just kept saying, "NO WAY!".

I also think it will be interesting to see what happens to the addicts once the cocaine doesn't work. In my experience, a lot of people can and do switch addictions. Often what they are after is to fill a void they feel inside. I know I have jumped ship from addiction to addiction over time. So, I am wondering if we'll see switching like sometimes happens after gastric bypass where people start drinking problematically.

I think that this sort of thing will mainly help those who are trying to kick the addiction. They want to stop, and this will help them have the willpower to do so.

I read the title and the first couple posts and imagined that if people got sick everytime they smoked, drank alcohol, or did drugs thanks to the "vaccine" attacking the substances much like antibodies, it could act as a big disincentive for people to 1. do the destructive stuff in the first place or 2. to get "vaccinated"...
I would imagine, though, as a therapy for helping individuals break chemical addiction, there would have to be a long extensive test period before it could be approved. And if it works, it may still not resolve the underlying problems as hiccups referenced.
