Complex issues in my life seem to require the application of the hymns. Recent events have had me humming 'School Thy Feelings' and 'Count Your Many Blessings'.
During a time in my life which was both painful and a continual source of stress, I sang 'Let Us All Press On' under my breath constantly.
Currently, 'Dear to the Heart of the Shepherd' tops the charts of my internal hymn playing radio station. It is soothing and reminds me that even though I am wandering around in pastures that are distant that my Savior can rescue me, even when I wandered away from the fold deliberately.
Have you ever heard the original song that "Praise to the Man" was taken from?
It's "Scotland the Brave." Since my nephew introduced me to it after his mission in Scotland, I tend to get the lyrics all muddled between the two. I can't imagine what it's like for Scottish Saints to sing that hymn. Might as well confuse all of you as well.
My personal internal hymn playlist includes "How Firm a Foundation", "I Need Thee Every Hour", "More Holiness Give Me", "Lord, I Would Follow Thee", and "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing." (I'm disappointed the song didn't make it into the 1985 hymnbook. I hear there were copyright problems.)

I love the sentiment of that song, "Screw you all, we're still here."
I can see why the tune was purloined by the early Saints. I suspect that the "we're tough and we're not going away" was implied when they chose to write "Praise to the Man" to it.

there is something hauntingly beautiful about the hymns that have been set to bagpipes. I have several renditions of Amazing Grace, one of which I got from one of the U.S. military music download site.
I have about 30 hymns on my laptop at work. When the stress levels turn up I play them til peace returns. I also use them for most my Sunday work music and when I read the scrips at work.
