We need a way to shame people in public.

So we can take some sort of culture-wide stand against actions like this:

Isn't admitting entering into a contest for Hannah Montana concert tickets public shame enough? rofl.gif

Not that I'm all for Hannah Montana, woo hoo! ----not!

I think that anyone who would go out of their way to deceive just so they could win doesn't deserve to any winning prize.
The kid was 6 years old. Obviously the mom wrote the essay. How many 6 year olds write essays?

That is shameful, particularly when there are real kids who's real parents have been killed in Iraq.

Sometimes I wish we had a society where honor and shame were important. There is very little honor anymore and and our culture does not have the concept of shame. I wish we did.

We can't really have a culture or society for public shame and not run the risk of being deftly rebuked at being the first to cast a stone...

Too much moralizing on the inequity and hypocrisy shown in that story "The Scarlet Letter".

A society where personal honor and integrity was still considered important would be wonderful though...

I think it would be charming to hear the following in America:

"You have dishonored yourself, your family, and your ancestors with your behavior! You have brought shame to your good name! You must restore honor to you and your family!"

Then the girl runs off and joins the army while pretending to be a boy!

Nothing restores honor like cross-dressing! giggle.gif

Especially for a chinese woman from the imperial age.
