I think it's interesting that the study says that ironically "whites are more likely to abuse narcotics than blacks." I wouldn't doubt that. Of the people I see through the pharmacy that are totally addicted to controlled substances they are far more likely to be white. That's not to say we don't see any blacks or hispanics who abuse, but the vast majority seem to be white.

Do you think that blacks are perceived as tougher than whites?

I haven't noticed any difference in the dental chair. There are chickens in all races. There are tough folks or non-afraid folks in all races.

I don't think that doctors assume blacks have a higher tolerance for pain. I don't think that has anything to do with it. I wonder if some doctor's just assume that because a person is a minority then they are just "drug-seeking."

I can't tell you though how many times a day, every day, I see people who try to fill their prescription for a controlled substance early. Or they get their narcotics filled on a regular basis.
You can practically time your watch by them.
I had a guy today who couldn't get his Vicodin ES yet, because his plan would not allow it yet.
Technically, the way the script was written he should have been able to get it. But, the "plan" doesn't allow a person to take more than five pills a day. The guy was ticked because he takes it every 3 hours and he was out.
And if a person is taking more than five pills a day of vicodin, that's a good way to destroy your liver.
