We've just had our first snow storm for the season.
As of a few hours ago we had 7 1/2 inches and it is still falling. All church meetings were cancelled today. I woke to find three of my kids standing over me looking at me saying, "Don't you know it's Sunday?" I said, "Church was cancelled today." "Why?" "Go look out the window." They all went to go look and collectively said, "Whoa!!!"
So, how many of you live in snow-infested states this time of year? We were blessed to have our neighbor come and clear most of our driveway with his snow-blower. Yay for good neighbors! Cuz shoveling snow is hard work!
It is also cold too! It's time to roast those chestnuts on an open fire! And Jack Frost is definitely nipping at our noses!
So before those of you who live in warmer states start complaining that 46 or 49 degrees is cold I'll transport you here for a day or so and you will know what cold truly is! Talk to the hand cuz nobody's listening!
Actually I do remember a friend of mine years ago who moved out east from California whom had never seen snow before in her life get all excited when it snowed for the first time one particuar winter. She was jumping up and down saying, "What is this substance?"
Sweet stories!! I like that vision of your friend being so happy! And how cute of your kids to try to remind you of it being SUnday!
A couple weeks ago we had a couple inches of snow. In our ward there is a family who recently moved from a very warm state. One of their daughters was telling me how she was excited to see snow as she hadn't seen it since she was a toddler age. Well in chatting w/the mom of this girl, she said that girl's youngest sister actually cried when she heard that the snow would be gone the next day! They had to provide reassurance snow would return one day!
I love Texas. But I still miss the white Christmases (and white Thanksgivings and sometimes even white Halloweens and white Easters) from my childhood in Idaho.
But hey, I walked to church this morning without a coat, hat, and gloves. It's all good.

I can kind of sort of get in the "mood" for Christmas now... It needs to feel like winter to me, preferably with some snow.
But, we're all out of hot chocolate, and all our hot chocolate that we bought from the Bishop's Storehouse family canning thingee is gone... it is a crime against humanity and Cat Herder Christmas tradition! Blame it on Poncho and the female child things... they drank up all the mix (like 3 #10 cans worth) just since August!

I loved snow when we lived in happy valley! I had to dig out my car several times and we had to shovel out the front walk and steps virtually every few days in order to have guests come over.
we built some INCREDIBLE snow people, put snow angels in people's yards, had a blast with sleds and innertubes roaring down hillsides and really loved that 'chestnuts roasting by the open fire' feeling.
used to make hot chocolate with a King Leo peppermint stick for a stirrer and the bakery up the street had these absolutely sinful cookies to dunk in the hot chocolate.
I also learned that driving in the snow isn't easy for even 'experiernced drivers from snowy climates . . . I saw stuff that was UNBELIEVABLE . . . like the pickup parked vertically on a powerpole after a skid. . . and the car that came to rest on top of another car on I-15 near Nephi . . .
oh, the good times from the old days . . .!
does anyone have marshmallows for my hot chocolate? I appear to be out.

I like cocoa, but invariably one of my daughters leaves a cup on a counter and doesn't finish it, and then my baby comes around and spills it all over the place... it's happened the last three or four times I've made cocoa. I've been banned from the cocoa, as a result...
Of course they can't stop me! I will make the cocoa!

Cat and Poncho, if ya want to drive downriver I have 6 #10 cans of hot cocoa mix! I'll give ya one! There's only 3 of us at home now so we don't go through it as fast, so giving up a can or 2 won't deplete us till I can get back to the storehouse in the spring.
crazymom, you truely are an angel! We may just have to take you up on that offer! I don't think we have a storehouse visit for our ward scheduled this week.
PM Poncho. We'll be heading down to Ohio Friday most likely and coming back up Saturday.
Of course, you'll need to get security clearance to see me in person... otherwise, you know the saying, I could tell ya, but then I'd have to kill ya!
It would be interesting to see if we recognize each other at all from when you guys were still up in our stake!
