I have a cool story to share. When cocokid#1 was 2 yrs. and 6 months we were driving around (the two of us) and looking at some lights. Growing up, we had a family in the ward named the Allreds. Whenever we'd pass a house with all red lights, my dad would jokingly say, "There's the Allreds!" Well, as my son and I were looking around, I see a house with all red lights and this memory popped into my head and I said, "Hey, there's the Allreds," and starting chuckling to myself. About a block later, I hear this little voice from the back say, "Dare da All Whites!" My baby's a genius!

I need someone to finish putting up our lights... we had snow / ice on Saturday night, and it has been cold and windy since. I managed to get one flag up, two flood light and the blow up super-sized christmas tree ornament in place and plugged in to test, but none of the bushes and rest of the extension cords, the wreath over the garage door, or anything else.
We're right at the front of our sub, so we have to have a decent display in order to outdue what the homeowners fee (which we haven't paid for several years... bad Cat Herders... bad) is paying for on the island out in the street a lot down from us.

I wont know the exact names of these places but I was visiting friends in the Seattle area one year around Christmas and we went to see the Christmas ships and hear the caroling. That was so fun! We also went to....I think an arboretum, and that was really cool! So fun. The kids and I really enjoyed it.
Zoo lights--tons of lights all over the zoo, Santa's there, free cocoa and cookies, and they make artificial snow by the polar bear exhibit.
And
Winterhaven -- Check the link after the 15th, and they'll have actual pictures of the decorations for this year.
The houses on my street are really into it too, so it's nice walking/driving around the neighborhood. Although...our lone little wreath seems a little sparse by comparison. It does have really cool red-berry LED, battery-powered lights though!
My house exterior is decorated like crazy. I buy the stuff the day after Christmas at a huge discount and save it until the next year. Of course living on a farm down a long dirt road, no one but my family gets to enjoy it and maybe the hometeachers. Takes a whole day to put up and a whole day to take down. I prefer the large bulb light strands and have about fifteen of them plus a nativity scene, animatronic lighted deer, animatronic lighted snowman, two penguins, a train with lights that make it look like its moving, candy cane lights, iceicle lights, ect. It is a pain to put up but the kids like it a lot and hopefully they will remember that dad put up their own private show every year for the holidays.

Our family likes to go driving around and look at lights, though we don't really put much effort into lights on our own home. There's one house that's so decked with lights that I like to joke that Christmas Puked on the house... I swear the entire house is covered by a giant net of lights, and of all sorts, and across the lawn and there's not a spare space for lights, and well... I can't imagine his power bill, but he puts the Griswalds to shame. :)
We love to drive by his house every other day or so, to see what new light he's crammed into his house. It's funny cuz it's at one of the darkest blocks of the neighborhood, so it really makes a Huge contrast. The kids all love it, and we all laugh as a family as we drive buy at an idling speed. I have to wonder if the fellow who owns the house recognizes the same red minivan going by his house with four little girls eyes glued to the inside of the van windows... :)

We actually did the LED light thing this year, all the large globe style in blue. I like them very much, I think it is much nicer than our old blue icicle lights that faded every year. Otherwise, I used to love going to look at Christmas lights, but I've gotten to the point where I don't care so much (though that may be the residual depression talking).
Well, I got our tree up and was putting up the lights and am now sitting here waiting for Cat to come home, because a bunch of my lights don't work and there's about 1/4 of the tree that still needs lights. Cat went to the store to get more lights for outside.
Production has been grounded until he gets home.
Our family always makes it a tradition that on Christmas Eve we put on all our new Christmas pajamas and drive around and look at all the Christmas lights and while listening to this one Mormon Tabernacle choir x-mas CD we have. It's a always a shoo-in to get at least half of the kids konked out and ready for bed by the time we get back.

Now that is an UBER-cool idea!! Whoda thunk it? We just may have a new tradition to add to the household merrymaking.
