We had the record when I was a kid, and now I own the CD.
Other favorites include Amy Grant's "Home for Christmas", The Rankin Family's "Do You Hear...", the Windham Hill sampler "A Celtic Christmas", and (I don't care if you mock me) Michael McLean's "Forgotten Carols. "

Di, I'm with you on Forgotten Carols. Several years ago, I saw Michael McLean perform it with the institute choir at Boise State U. Their performance of "Find My Way" is one of the most moving and memorable performances I have seen.
I also really like Mannheim Steamroller's first Christmas album.
My favorite, though, is the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus performance of Handel's Messiah, with Kiri Te Kanawa as the featured soprano.

I'm feeling more and more like the grinch everytime I read this thread. I am pretty sick of 99% of Christmas music. Anything that they'll play in a retail store, I am full up on, thanks. I probably just worked retail too many years. And there, Christmas is code for crazy customer season. So, it's all wired in my brain to unpleasant memories.

Last night on PBS they showed the Celtic Women Christmas special. I usually dislike Christmas specials... but this one was very good. I'm tempted to buy the CD.

Crud, I missed it! That's a good one.
I have a Kurt Bestor Christmas album that we enjoy. I love MoTab Christmas stuff. Mannheim Steamroller is nostalgic. I want A Barenaked Christmas (BNL); it has some really fun stuff.

So, what can you do to adjust those feelings so that you are not reacting that way, hiccups?
You know, I'm okay with just avoiding Christmas music for the time being. I'm fine with what's in the hymnal and that's enough for worship purposes. I was just noting that having everyone excited about Christmas music here was making me feel a little like a grinch. I'll get over it. I might even listen to Christmas music on Christmas Day. That's enough for me.

Religious themed Christmas music is certainly one of the best ways to get the Spirit with one's self. I personally do not limit it to Sunday worship services. I kind of keep it in my mind for weeks / sometimes a couple months at a time like a prayer in the heart.

For some people... "It's our only hope." (...said like belle's avatar... while switching off R2D2... for some reason this phrase keeps running through my head...)
Still... that quote is true not JUST at Christmas...
Well, my 3yo's favorite song is definitely Feliz Navidad. It comes on and he's be-bopping in the back seat and when it's over he's pissed off at me for half an hour. That's just his personality. Little sweetie.

My 10 year old goes nuts when "I Wanna Hippopotamous for Christmas" comes on the radio and begs us to change the station. I leave it on just to irritate her sometimes. Aren't I mean?
At this very moment we are listening to "Noel", Josh Groban's newest Christmas CD.
My wife bought it for herself for Christmas and we are enjoying it now. The final song is Josh singin with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir... "O Come All Ye Faithful".
His voice is so beautiful, it seriously moves us to tears.

My wife and I went to Red Mountain High a couple of years ago to watch the Forgotten Carols. It was a fun evening.

I am quickly getting sick of hearing Josh Groban's version of "O Holy Night"...
Clearly, one of his better songs I've heard, but it still sounds too commercial and it takes away from the sacredness (IMHO) to be hearing it every couple hours on the couple radio stations around hear that are playing Christmas Music And Nothing But Christmas Music 7x24 until Christmas day... (yeah, the bulk of what they are playing are renditions of "White Christmas", "We Need A Little Christmas", "The Christmas Song", "Little Drummer Boy", "Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer", R&B versions of "Do You Hear What I Hear", and the perennial local "favorites" of "Christmas on Woodward Avenue", "I Want A Hippopotamous For Christmas", and Madonna's "Santa Baby").

Better be careful, Euph. With all those lip prints you've placed on Cat's face (or are we talking about a different kind of smacking), Poncho might be calling you out for a smackdown. And judging by your respective avatars, I'm betting she could take you.
Of course, I'm also betting Cat's lovin every minute of it.

Who's been lip-smacking my Cat? I'm just liable to stretch my elastic arm through cyber-space and take somebody down to the beat of "The Little Drummer Boy."
Oh, and if Cat Herder is loving this, he deserves a good thrashing too!
I found a site on the net (while surfing in my robe and slippers) that offers some background and downloads of less than familiar Christmas music as well as some old favorites on vinyl.
