I just discovered a new (to me!) music site. www.pandora.com You input songs or artists that you like and they find and play similar music. I'm having a blast and so far it's pretty smart. Finally a station that plays stuff I am interested in.

Yes, I LOVE Pandora! Haven't used it for a while though...listening to recorded music is one of my 'off' hobbies at the moment....playing music and knitting are the 'on' hobbies this week. :D
I tried pandora for awhile, but I just kept feeling like it would consistently test the line of what I liked until I had to tell it to skip a song. I guess its purpose is to introduce you to new music it thinks you might like. But each song it farther and farther from the one I originally liked...

You know that doesn't bug me. If it starts getting too far away from what I want I add something new into the station criteria (or take something out) and that usually does the trick.
I have 3 stations so far, but I'll probably make a 4th here soon. I'm having fun and finding some new (to me) music to enjoy.

Oh my freakin' flip, coco. How in the world do you do ANYTHING on the internet? You actually have to click on some things....like the login button to Bountiful. You should switch avatars with bok.....

I didn't like Pandora too much (the thread title made me think you had gotten yourself into a lot of trouble, opened the wrong box).
I really like www.accuradio.com, huge range of choices of music to pick from. I am partial to Celtic Punk or the 80's Rock. But since I found this band called Nightwish, I have been hooked on them and listened to little else lately. Incredible band.

I just checked out for the first time. I can't say I loved the song choices so far. But I did like the mellow feel and am going to test the waters and see if it gives me more of what I like in the future.
Oh man! They were just about to play "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". I love that song! And my mom has an experience going back to the first time she heard it when babysitting that makes me relate too. Well, a screen popped up saying that I have to register. I'm sure that they will play more good like that. And if it comes up again, I will let it be known that I want them to play it a lot! This is even better than scanning the Digital Music Channels on cable or at least the potential seems greater.
I don't think I click on anything to login into bountiful. It's all keyboard, isn't it? I mean, that's like 8- no, 9" over to the mouse... see it? waaaay over theeeere.....

I started to register for Pandora the other day, but I was wonder if you have to pay to subscribe as it sort of sounded like that. Also, I hate reading all the terms and conditions. If I am just listening for my general home use and not doing anything other than listening on my speakers, do I need to worry about anything in the wording? Is there a limit to how many channels you can have?
I have been at accura some to check it out. I was disappointed that they lump 70's with disco music. My digital music channel does that as well. So far I have not really heard anything I liked very much on the 70's channel. Then, the love songs channel goes from the 50's, 60's and 70's and so I seem to get the 50's. I know if I listen long enough that I will probably hear something that I like, but I like to switch channels like I do with my Digital Music channels to try to find things that I like.
At Accura, I like the Textures channels as I enjoy easy listening. There is a sub channel with Jim Brickman who has piano music at just the right tempo for my taste. So relaxing and pretty! However, I like a bit of a mix so I don't just want to listen to that. I like soft Rock a lot, but often the lyrics are too suggestive for me. I can't help that I listen too much to the lyrics as my parents accuse me. And I am very sensitive to what I read or see on t.v. or listen to on the radio. That is one of the reasons that I listen to classical a lot because I don't have to worry about the words. Even with Easy listening, I can often remember the words to some lyrics that I do not think are good tfor me. When I can change channels with the remote, I will switch around a lot. When I do not have access to the remote easily, then I will usually just listen to classical.
Zealia, you don't have to pay at Pandora unless you want the optional features. There's an option for just listening for free from your computer. IIRC, the paid optioon lets you take the music with you on PDAs or whatnot.

Thanks, Hiccups! I don't have a PDA. At least, I don't think I do. I don't have an ipod or anything like it. I don't put discs in my computer so I would not want an ipod unless someone else would download it for me.
I signed up. I am enjoying it. I have two stations that I previously created. I think I am going to start a third with John Denver. How many stations are you allowed?
I am a little concerned that it required my email for my user name. Is that something people on the site can see? Will I get spam? Also, I set up a profile, but I think that I have it set to private right now. If it is open to the public, does that give them acess to my email? Is it a good idea to be public. I just put my first name and for town Midwest and occupation rather than company etc.
Oh, my Michael Crawford channel is so marvelous. I heard a rendition of "On Eagles Wings." We used to sing that a lot at our school Masses at my Catholic school in eighth grade.
I found out through reading on the help site that you can have up to 100 channels and after that if you want another, you need to delete a current channel. Wow! The possibilities!
