My Ipod Shuffle doesn't get hot at all, but then, it's a flash memory based player instead of a hard drive based player.
I must admit, though, that I begin drooling when looking at the new touch based Ipods.
If my budget matched my wants, I would have as much money as JK Rowling.

Dude, you need to pare down your wants. I think they're out of control. It's all a decoy, remember? Sufficient for our needs...that's the key so we're not deceived. (Ooh... there's that word again.)

MrCoco just got a new mP3 today. He says he's putting Will Durant on it.

I can buy "5" NEW 4 gig SD memory cards for my PDA (which has like 50 MORE functional uses), AND not spend as much as some of those dumb players... and I can read my scriptures, at the doc's office... OR listen to music... Or a whole lot of other stuff...

I have the MP3 files of the last 2 Conferences on memory disks that I use in my PDA... NOT to mention my journal, PAF files, and

Ok, so I'll be going to Hell because I have an Ipod.  I absolutely love it.  I listen to it while shopping (to the amusement of others around me as I sing along--usually in harmony, so it sounds a little off).  I listen to it at work.  I listen while I work out.  I'm listening to it now!  So, there nana.gif

Polly, I only paid $100 for my iPod, and it doubles as a USB memory stick, so I can switch files from one computer to another.

okay... so that would be 3 uses...

Really I am just kidding...

Still... I really don't understand the hype, I mean can you read you scriptures...? Can you type an entry for your journal, while waiting for your lab work to be finished??? My PDA has been my brain for years now (I am on my second one, in 7 years...) My office mate if on her 3rd iPod in 2 years, and she's not the only one I have seen that with... the silly things don't seem to have much shelf life... hmm.gif

This is the only iPod I've had for two years - and it's different strokes for different folks. When my PDA was working, I loved it for many of the reasons you state. But, even though it would have worked for file transfer, it would have been tremendously kludgey. It's easy with my iPod - I stick it into the USB port on any computer, and it shows up as a drive.
The newer iPods show videos, too. The absolute latest models even have some PDA functions, although no one would mistake them for a PDA replacement.

I'm a musicaholic. I have my entire CD collection on a single thing that plays it back for me and lets me make playlists so I can put my faves into a single section and then change them when I get tired of the mixture.

I have 2783 songs currently loaded. One of the best investments I have ever made.

I hate the earbuds, personally. I need to pick up some headphones. My ears start to hurt after the earbuds are in there for a while.

I have a couple different sets of headphones, work, home... I don't like earbuds either...

I still use my old Sony Sports Walkman headphones bought in Philadelphia the day before I came home from my mission in 88. They are the most comfortable headphones I have ever had and have good sound quality. The amazing thing is how long they have lasted.

mirk, I'm with you about your passion for music.  I have over 3000 songs in my Itunes (and I still have CDs to export), but I can arrange them into playlists.  I've had my Ipod for a year now and absolutely do not regret the purchase.  I like the flexibility of an Ipod and the size of it.  I cannot wear the earbuds--they fall out of my ears every time.  I must have genetically weird ears because I simply cannot keep them in my ears.  I bought the ear thingys that has a piece that wraps around the ear and holds it in place.

Besides, if I want to read scriptures, I bring them with me.  Gives me a great opportunity when someone asks, "whatcha readin'?"  Missionary tool!

Those nostrils of yours look like they'd hold the earbuds pretty good...

Look, alien-baby, I can't hear out of my nostrils.  So back off--or I'll snort on you!
