Have a look at www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLEID=57960 A US Army veteran noticed a Mexican flag illegally flying above an American flag on the same mast above a bar in Reno, NV. He cut the flag down. Now he states the bar owner is being coerced to file charges against him.
The link isn't working for me. (But I did find the story on the WND homepage.) Ok, I get that it is wrong to fly a Mexican flag above a U.S. flag, but I'm not on board with the hispanic culture bashing the guy does in the rest of the article.

Who bashed who first? I hope you can appreciate that those of us who have been to the border and witnessed illegals coming across (and been told by the border patrol not to stop them), and who witnessed one of the "marches" in support of illegal immigration in Phoenix, AZ and in other cities including SLC, have a much different reaction to the incident reported here.
I get it. It's a very charged issue. I just can't get behind bashing. I personally find it upsetting and dehumanizing. As a country, we do need to fix the mess we've made, but to be honest, I put more of the responsiblity on us as a country than the illegal immigrants as individuals.

It isn't just wrong to fly any other nation's flag above or higher than the U.S. flag on U.S. soil, it is illegal. And it is also disrespectful to fly any other nation's flag below the U.S. flag, on the same or seperate poles during a time of peace. Mexico, last I checked, was not listed as one of our allies in the war in Iraq or Afghanistan, and hence there should not be any reason for the two flags to be on the same pole. Let alone having the foreign nation's flag higher than our own. Period.
I managed a retail flag business for three years (we sold to a number of local, state, and federal government entities across the nation as well as business firms and private citizens), so I am somewhat of a subject matter expert on the topic.
And, despite what local authorities were claiming, there is probably ample things that can be done to have the Mexican flag removed legally and in a non-vandalism manner. That would include signage code violation. Many places have codes that restrict the type of signage, placement, and size of flags and banners that can be hung on a business. And, if the pole was not installed with the proper permits, the whole thing would have to come down, particularly if it is over a public sidewalk. The article stated something about it being a makeshift pole? The pole looked like some sort of "vertical outrigger" setup (technical industry term), but not the proper type of pole or brackets for the application.
If local code allows it, there is nothing wrong with the bar flying both flags... just they have to be on seperate poles, and the flags need to be the same height, same size, and the Mexican flag needs to be to the U.S. flag's left.

I think the reason for the 2 flags being on the same pole, with the Mexican flag above the American flag, should be quite apparent. There have been other similar incidents, one in particular an a SLC high school a couple of years ago where Hispanic students took down the American falg and ran up a Mexican flag.
I'd be interested to know how "the mess we've made" us our responsibility more than the illegal immigrants.
I'm glad that there are still people willing to stand up for our country's sovereignty. If this vet gets sued, I'll gladly contribute to a legal fund for him. I tried to edit the link for Lundbaek to make it work, but it didn't work for me either.

It's not too hard to find this story when you look on the web for it.
I read about it somewhere, I think it was on the Drudge Report or WorldNetDaily, but I can't find it there anymore. (For the record, I disagree with quite a bit of WND stuff, I think some of it is too sensational or geared towards reactionary creationists, but oh well.)
This situation was outrageous (The whole flying the mexican flag above the U.S. flag in U.S. territory, not the veterans actions).

Well, yeah, it can be only one of two things... 1. Sheer ignorance on the part of the immigrants (legal or illegal) who own / operate / patronize the establishment; or 2. flagrant disregard for the nation they are in.
Either way, there are ways for the local authorities to deal with it, but they obviously are too afraid of getting sued.

Mr X lives in Mexico. He has a family and wants to work to support them. He isn't making enough money in Mexico to keep his family out of squalor. Mr X knows that there are jobs in the US that will pay well enough to lift his family out of squalor, so he decides to come here.
Meanwhile, in the US we have laws we aren't enforcing and bureaucracy so thick that it's difficult to be able to come work here. There are, however, a lot of jobs that many ordinary citizens feel is beneath them to do. (And why do the hard, lowly jobs when you can be on welfare?)
So, what happens? We end up with millions of illegals immigrants who come here to work and live. (I know that some come here as part of the drug trade and gangs, but most do not.)
So, that's the way I see it. I feel like our country set it up to happen this way by simply looking the other way until it became this big issue.
Not saying I'm right. That's just what's in my head.

Firstly, that's not the topic being discussed. The outrage on this thread is that someone (here legally or not, we don't know and it has absolutely no bearing on the issue) flew the Mexican flag higher than the US flag. Not only is that illegal, but it is an outrageous snub at the nation they're living in.
Secondly, it is simply a fallacy that there are jobs that cannot be filled by legal residents of the US. When they did the raid on the Swift meat packing plant in Greeley, the illegals they arrested were soon replaced by legals. When a farmer or construction company says that they can't find people to work for them, what they mean is that they can't find people to work for them at the wage they're willing to pay. They can get away with paying illegals next to nothing.

Arbi, I thought Lundbaek was asking me to clarify my "mess we've made" statement, so a couple of us were talking about that.
I didn't say we can't fill the jobs legally. I said there are "a lot of jobs that many ordinary citizens feel is beneath them to do." Whether it's beneath them because of the job being hard, the pay being low, or both wasn't really part of my point.
My only real point was that our country created the opportunity for illegal immigration and then didn't stop it from happening.

Hey Arbi. Washington State will never enforce immigration. So we'll be able to make really cheap stuff, and have perfectly manicured lawns for dirt cheap... and you won't! So nyeah... nyeah, n... err... wait a sec... the cost of living in Washington is much higher than it was in Fort Collins... and my lawn... it looks like crap!! All that yellow moss in it!!
DANG IT!! I'm being ripped off again!!

What some folks don't seem to get is that flying the Mexican Flag over the American flag does only harm to their cause because people take it as an insult.
