News: Author of Wheel_of_Time series Robert Jordan is dead...

http://entertainment.tv.yahoo.com/entnews/ap/20070917/119004990000.html

Sad news for all fans of the books. Especially since it leaves so much unresolved... If you were an author who had a lengthy series, would you be disappointed to die before you got to finish it?

I would... I guess this could be a lesson to some not to write long series. rolleyes

Son2 is VERY bummed... According to info he had read/heard/looked at Robert Jordan was working on the last book in that series and had been trying very hard to beat the clock. He evidently mentioned in an interview that he knew he was testing the limits, he had been ill for a long time. Unfortunately as ray says... at least according to Son there was too much unresolved to be at all resigned, he's a bit whiny.

The book itself wasn't scheduled til 2009 for publishing, but the 12th book was supposed to wrap up the series. Turns out he spent the last few months of his life with many assistants explaining each and every character and their direction and point in the story and so forth, and explaining the ends of all of them.

I think it's telling that he spent so much time trying to explain himself to these assistants. It was once made criticism of this guy that he was only in it for the money, that he stretched out the series in order to get more money making more books. I would think if it were about the money and he were on his deathbed he'd just give up, but apparently he really cared about telling this story. It's sad he's gone, but I'm sure that some form of resolution will be reached as a result of his hard work all the way to the last of his life.

Well the odds were against him. Some huge percentage of folks who have what he had don't live more than 2 years after being diagnosed...
