Windows Vista

Recently I installed a new virus checker for my home teacher. He has a newer computer, and Windows Vista was installed on it. This was my first experience helping someone with Vista.
Now, I may be a Mac guy at heart, but I use Windows professionally. I'm good at it. But Microsoft, in their infinite hubris, decided to change where everything was in Vista. Plus, it's really slow even on a reasonably fast computer. So what I thought would be a 10-15 minute software installation took about 40 minutes instead.
Of course, I'm not in much danger of having to use Vista at work anytime soon. Our IT guy is deadset against it. Many of our clients have policies forbidding the using of Vista on their computers. Everything I hear about Vista from computer professionals is negative.

Not to mention they had to be PC and use Spanish in the name!

Yeah...in order to install Word 2007 (which is hard to use until you play with it a LOT) on my sister's brand new lappy, it took over an hour to do the uninstall of the trial version, and install the real one. Normal lappys don't take that long. Even my 4 year old one.

I have heard people say that a FAST computer running Vista will make one long for the days of the first 486s... The one and only machine I have ever used with it on it is at our library... They are all Dell donated machines (less than 4 months old) and they are a nightmare! I use XP at work... we have Linux at home... The school district, where I worked and volunteer at run MAC... so I am well trained in more than one OS choices...

I have NO idea why anyone would settle for a machine that is so difficult to navigate...

With certain distributions of Linux, such as Ubuntu, pretty much anyone can use Linux anymore (except if you belong to that group of people that fears computers so much that no operating system is easy enough for them)

I understood you and agree with you. In my current sleep deprived state I wasn't able to express my opinion more clearly.

I've been building up a Linux Fedora Core 7 server. It's not mindless, though it did recognize my hardware and even the onboard soundchip, which is something Vista couldn't do with this given hardware (duocore intel motherboard). I was impressed by that. I haven't bothered with Vista yet, here at work we're all using XP or earlier OSes.
