100 points to the first person who can provide the proper source of the following quote:
The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done.

Joseph Smith to John Wentworth who wrote seeking information about the church for his newspaper. Joseph also wrote the Articles of Faith for his response.

I've always loved that quote. For me, it answers a question I had as a missionary: Why doesn't the LDS Church answer the challenges of critics and apostates? The answer is another question: Why would it need to?
The work will progress. The truth will go forth nobly and boldly. The unhallowed hands (and voices) raised against the church break themselves on the rock of the Lord's Kingdom. Humble seekers of truth always have and always will embrace the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

Cat, I think some smooth, sweet Tomacolatte brand Tomacolate could also be "donated" as a prize for this contest. I think we should sponsor some other contests in the future. Perhaps we could call it the Tomacolatte Quiz or something to promote the brand.
They are both winners! hiccups will get the tomacolate, but Euphie gets the 100 points because she had the same reference as what I was thinking.
So, next question(s), what do you think of this statement? Do you believe Joseph Smith uttered it as inspired prophecy? What have you seen that you feel is in partial fulfillment of this prophecy?
That is interesting TT. To be honest, I don't recall ever hearing this quote on my mission. Our mission song was based loosely on Doctrine and Covenants Section 4.
I remember a few years back when we had several sets of missionaries in our ward, one of the AP's or zone leaders was giving a talk in sacrament meeting or some other meeting I was at and started this quote. All the other full-time missionaries stood up and repeated it with him, kind of the way some wards do the Purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood in Priesthood Opening Exercises. At the time, I thought it wasn't really appropriate to the meeting, but it was still interesting to hear the quote spoken aloud with a certain bold emphasis.
