BABY SHOWER!

*or*

Why DH's Job Rocks.

By Jen

There are 5 guys in DH's dept that had or are having babies this year. So, the very sweet and awesome V.P. over his department decided to throw us all a baby shower.

This guy is so great. Just down-to-earth, so nice, etc. He and his lovely, wonderful, and British wife (ok British has nothing to do with it, except it makes it even more fun to talk to her) have always been so, so good to us and the other employees.

They provided a really nice lunch. Then he gave the mandatory pre-meeting "safety message". It was so cool, his safety message was on balancing work/life/family. He told the guys to look around and see all the reasons they have to not overwork themselves (wives and kids were invited).

Then they presented gifts, consisting of clothes and toys for the babies, a diaper changing kit for the dads (including clothes pins for their noses, safety aprons, etc). To top it off, every one of us new moms got a $100 gift certificate to a local salon/day spa. Of course being all prudish and weird about my personal space, I'll pass on the rock massages and whatnot and just get a nice haircut and stuff :p.

The cake was pretty awesome, too.

What a cool place to work! I think it is neat when people in the same circles have babies at the same time whether they are teaching together, in an auxillary at Church together, or family, or at the same jobs.

Check first, before you give anything away...   Most day spas will trade any service, for other services, as long as you are in the same monetary ballpark... My suggestions get a European facial including a purifying mask, try a manicure & pedicure WITH paraffin wax treatments...  Then have your hair and make-up done if that is your thing...  I LOVE being pampered at a day spa and get a gift cert from hubby to go to the one a friend of mine runs once a year on my b-day...  I mean if you have to turn a year older you might as well take it in style, right? wink

I don't think she was going to give it away...she said she was going to pass on the massage and get a haircut instead.

You could also check if they do chair massages. Much less intrusive.

The folks at work gave us like a SUV full worth of diapers of various sizes when beserker son was born 4 1/2 years ago... And, they gave us something nice as well when last daughter was born 2 1/2 years ago.

Beyond that, all that pampered girly stuff all y'alls are talking about is for, well, ya girls... wink.gif

I want my new brother-in-law's boss. About a month before they were married he gave my BIL an 80% raise. Then he gave him 2 weeks paid time off for the honeymoon. Then he bought them a 42" LCD HDTV for their wedding.

I tell you my sister is spoiled. SPOILED I SAY!
