Nuthin beats...

Texas storms!  We sat on our porch and watched the light show, sometimes 2-3 flashes/second, and listened to the non-stop symphony of thunder for about 20 minutes.  Then the rain hit in furious sheets and filled up my rain barrels in about 15 minutes.  The best part is that the temperature dropped about twenty degrees and the kids ran up and down the sidewalk til they were soaked and shivering. Then bathtime and bedtime.  A good ending to any day.

I enjoy a good thunderstorm too. When we arrived Thursday night to Lake Erie there had been a thunderstorm that evening and it was nice and cool. But, could you send some of those furious sheets of rain our way? Our poor lawn is dry as a bone. We had someone from our lawn service tell me today that we need to water it alot more. (As if we didn't know that already).

*sob* I miss good thunderstorms ooooohhh so badly. That's the biggest thing I miss (aside from my family) living up here in the desert of Idaho. In Oklahoma I just LOVED how a black sky would sweep in and obliterate a blue sunny sky, bringing with it many gallons of rain. Here we barely get drizzles and even those not very often. *sob again*

I wish that it was legal in Colorado to have a rain catching system.

It's illegal to "catch" rainwater in CO...??? That is weirder than weird Arbi!

ETA:  Our part of AZ has gotten some GOOD soaking rains the last couple weeks...  We continue to pray for more and are so GRATEFUL for each drop...

Growing up, thunderstorms were often one thing that brought our family closer together, as the power would go out and so it was dark and there was nothing to do but to sit near each other, etc. THen the power would come back on and the bonding moment was gone!

When cocokid#1 was 12 months old, we were spending the summer in Kentucky and a marvelous storm started up. The power went out and we were on our porch swing watching the sideways rain - it was just awesomely powerful. Loved it! After all this, I found out about tornadoes and tornado warnings and all that stuff... 3 houses down a 40 yr. old tree was uprooted! I had no idea, I just thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. Later I did a little tornado chasing with a friend of mine back there. Awesome. I know, I know, stupid. But ... awesome. smile.gif Sometimes I love feeling microscopically small.

New Mexico had some majestic storms during the years I lived there. Surely the term cloudburst was invented for NM.

I remember visiting City of Rocks once and a thunder boomer came on so quickly that my mom barely had time to holler for us to come get in the car before the lightning was on top of us. I had just made it to the car when lightning stuck the huge bolder about 15 feet away. The scariest part was that my brothers were both still outside one bolder over. They came running pretty quickly after that. That day I learned God didn't want me (or my brothers)dead yet.

Did you know that Weld County, Colorado, is the tornado capital of the nation? We get more tornadoes here than anywhere else. Of course, the vast majority are Force 0 or Force 1.

This supports my theory that eastern Colorado is really just an extension of Kansas.
