Will you plan to attend or Did you attend your High School 20th year Reunion?

Why in the world would anyone attend one of these things?

I helped plan our 20 year reunion. It was interesting to see where people had gone with thier lives. I still see my close friends from high school regularly, but there were a few of my HS buddies I had not seen or talked with in years. It was fun to see them again.

I'm looking forward to the 25 yr reunion coming up in 2 years... 20th was first I went too. Saw some old friends that hadn't seen in 20 years. Poncho went with me for moral support... found out that a couple of classmates are up here in the metro area here... one is a detective with one of the suburban police forces... kind of up your industry mirk. wink.gif

My 15 year is coming up next year and I have no plans to attend. My highschool is only about 10 miles away from where I currently live. I didn't attend my 10 year reunion either. I really didn't like highschool except for sports. I found the whole social garbage to be distracting. The girls dressed like street walkers and most of the guys were just jerks. All but a handful of the teachers were jerks. If it were not for sports I'd have said the whole thing was a waste of time. One of my good friends was killed about three days before graduation. I still remember talking to him in the parking lot minutes before he was killed. My friends and I never really talked much again after that. Graduation was a real downer because of it. I went to college in the fall and tried to forget about the last four years. I wasn't picked on or anything. I actually knew almost everybody. So it wasn't a matter of being the subject of bullying or teasing so in that sense it could have been much worse. I really don't want to go back and see those guys again because we'll think about our friend that died. We'll have almost nothing in common anymore and have gone on with our lives. I don't think any of them went to the 10 year anyway.

My HS friends were either a grade above or below me. Or in a different school.

No point.

Thanks for the excuse option, ray. That's me. I was going to go, but wasn't overly excited about it... then MrCoco's niece's wedding came up. Can't miss the wedding...

I, too, keep in touch with the people I want to already.

If it were not so hard for me to go places, I would have considered going to my high school renunion. I went to an All Girls Catholic school. There were so many neat girls in my class that one of my teachers used to say that they did not want to let my class graduate. There were outgoing women who went out of their way to befriend me. Having converted to another faith is a little hard for me though there were people of different faiths at my school. Even before going places was a challenge, I had not gone to any of the reunions. I am rather embarassed to this day about a speech I gave in religion class my Senior year. My class was so good to me despite the content of my speech.

I also think it would be fun to see the men who were at my Catholic School where I went for 8th grade and the women who did not go to my same high school as well as those who went to my high school. I was not able to hold conversations then for the most part. It meant a lot to me that some of the guys would pay attention to me and tease me a little bit in ways that usually made me feel noticed. I would like to be able to hold a conversation with them after all these years.

I also would like to go to a reuinion of the Catholic School where I went from first to seventh grade. Those were my Norman Rockwell years at both home and school. That school was much smaller than the other grade school or my high school. It was like a small town. There are so many sweet memories tied to that school.

I felt impressed inside at one time that going to my reunion was not the thing to do. I don't know if there was a reason or I just felt it. I don't know if things will change.

Maybe I will make it to my 25th in a few years!

I don't know if I'll go or not. I've got a good many years to decide.

zealia: I agree, I'd go to a reunion for my 7-8th grades... But otherwise I'd prefer the pickaxe... :)

I didn't go to the 20th... and I didn't go to the 30th... and I won't go to the 40th, 50th or any others...

I can't imagine anything worse actually, than spending an evening with a bunch of drunks... In my experience that's about the only people that go to those things... I read my highschool's reunion web page and I am always glad I wasn't there to see it...

"No. I'd rather have my teeth removed with a pickaxe!"

Why is it we always get the dental metaphors?

Well for me mouth pain is about the WORST pain there is in the world... I handle any other kind of pain much better than mouth pain, so the comparison is accurate, in my case...

Hey, I got another excuse! It's been moved from the high school (because of renovation) to the local sports club/bar owned by the local drunk coolio quasi-rich guy with morals of an alley cat. I can't possibly support his business... no.gif

And yeah, something tells me most of my class will be looking to get drunk and hopefully a one-nighter. rolleyes

Well, there is not really a whole lot of physical pain that can be inflicted by software code, spreadsheets and macros, or financial reports from a database... wink.gif

Well, Cat enjoyed his reunion, but I had nor the desire, inclination, need or what have you to go to mine. Besides, has anyone noticed how much to going to one of those things costs? weirdface.gif
Not happening! I wouldn't want my teeth pulled with a pickaxe. Undergoing chinese water torture...maybe.
