Tandem cycling

Has anyone done this?

Oldest Roper boy and I are contemplating a cycling trip from Texas to Utah next summer--about 1500 miles by lesser-traveled roads.  Rather than two bikes with loaded panniers, we're thinking about a tandem with a trailer.

Any recommendations?

We had one when I was growing up and I HATED it. It was VERY hard to pedal (both parties felt like they were doing all the work) and it's harder to keep your balance when you have the weight of 2 persons shifting as they pedal. Of course, ours was an old bike so new ones might work better. I would suggest seeing if you can borrow or rent one for a trial period to see how you like it.

Never been on a bicycle made for two.

Why do I suddenly feel the urge to sing "Daisy"? wink.gif
