Elijiah's Holiday Approaches!!

So Father's Day is up and coming... and what if anything are you doing for your Dad? All you dads out there, do you even think about your dad, or is this a holiday all about you? :)

My adorable husband will be opening gifts of simple, inexpensive do-dads. THis is because what he is really getting is massive remodeling of the house but I think he should still open a gift just because it's fun.

He will get his dad something that has been approved by his mom but we wont be having dinner together because his dad is out of town.

So, instead, I will be taking a basket of gourmet foods recently sent to us as a thank-you and a blanket or two, driving him up the canyon and reminding him how he became a dad devilish.gif

And no one will tell him to give up the remote all day.

Oh, shoot. I haven't got something for my dad yet. I'm stocked for hubby, and we mailed cards to the out of town FIL and grandpas...but I haven't thought of mine yet. Gah...I just spent forever trying to find him something for his birthday less than a month ago... (During which time, he told me "There's not much anyone can get me for a present. If there's something I want, I go out and get it.") evileye.gif

So...maybe I'll make him some homemade bread or something. Hmmm...

(By the way, for Daddy, the kids got some nice mechanical pencils, click-y eraser thing, and cookies. I think cookies are the 2yo's answer for any gift-giving occasion. But we did get Hubby's favorite kind. I also picked up an optical USB mouse to go with his laptop and a couple of garage door opener things--one for his key chain, and one to mount out front with a code. Hubby is a compulsive locker and always takes his keys even to get something out of the car or go out back. And he's been getting his car remote to take on walks...in case the doorknob breaks and he can't get in with his keys. I'm thinking of making a quick run and getting him a new fancy LED flashlight as well. biggrin.gif )

I think I'll make my dad that pineapple-cream-yellow-cake-with-the-real-whipped-cream-mixed-with-pudding-frosting that he really loves.

Our ward had its father/son campout this weekend, and I tried out a new air mattress. What a bad idea. All day yesterday my neck and shoulders were in agony. But I took some glucosamine and the problem righted itself after a while.
I got my father some canned butter such as Goody2Shoes linked to. He's almost as much of a prepper as I am, so I think that it'll be a gift that he can really appreciate.
BTW, this Father's Day he has real reason to celebrate; 10 years ago, after a 14 way heart bypass, he was given from 1-10 years to live. So he's beat the doctor's most optimistic estimates, and he attributes it all to natural remedies.

Bah. The bread did not turn out so well. *sigh* I ran into a time crunch and tried to have it raise during Church and set a delayed bake timer. But then it had to sit in the oven as it cooled until we got home, so it was a tad over done and had a thick layer of crust. *sigh* Good thing my dad loves me anyway...

Father's Day was worse than Mother's Day. I got to stay home with a sick kid... And, I got to make the bulk of dinner... And I got to go without a nap... And, the child things decided they didn't want to take naps and decided they wouldn't go to bed until late. And then after a really horrendous day where tempers flared throughout the family on several occasions, oldest daughter finally asks for a blessing (she got a really bad sunburn on Friday after last day of school when she went to water park w/o sunscreen) for her pain and aches so that she would feel okay to go to Cedar Point for three days with another friend starting this morning.

Kids fought over the Father's Day candy that was passed out to the fathers in the ward that they brought home to me... I was not in a very magnimous mood being tired and all from the lack of sleep the past two nights (campout and insomnia), so I told them all they couldn't have any of it and put it up.

And then this morning, I check my work e-mail when getting into work and find out I was supposed to help Primary out with their sharing time yesterday...

Highlights of the day yesterday for me were: talking with me bro when he called right after Mystery came on on PBS and then a few minutes of silence with Mrs. Cat before we both fell asleep totally exhausted.

I don't get it... what is Elijah's Day? confused.gif

Hearts of the Fathers turn to the children and children to the Fathers... Get it?
