Though honestly not that surprising for Boulder, Colorado.

This is the kind of thing that when I have kids encourages me to either
stay in Utah (or move to someplace with similar more conservative stances
or homeschool my kids

Just Disturbing

And what is this?
"We all experiment. It's very natural for young people to experiment with same sex relationships. When you are 13, 12, 13, 14 certainly probably one of the most appropriate sexual behaviors would be masturbation. Even today, there are psychiatrists who will do sessions under the influence of ecstasy. If I had some maybe I'd do it with someone, but you know."

Hey Roper, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't legal to shoot and or hang these sort of folks in Texas. If not, it should be. What a donkey's behind. This guy is extremely irresponsible and the school should be held accountable. Someone should lose their job for inviting this guy to speak. If he was paid, the money should be demanded back. I'm totally disgusted.

So let's say I'm the CEO of a healthcare company that employs a few hundred people.  I have mandatory training for my employees, and I invite a speaker who encourages my employees to use drugs and commit other illegal acts.

I would be the first person pressing charges.  I would fully expect the community to lose confidence in my leadership.  And I would expect to lose my position and possibly my company in the controversy.

Our schools should not be treated any differently.  The district should bring a legal suit against the speaker for advocating youth envolvement in illegal activities.  Parents should protest and pull their kids out of school until reforms are made.  And the principal should resign or be removed from the position.

Principals are charged with the safety of children at school, and must take extraordinary measures to protect them from harm in any kind of disaster.  Should this be treated any differently?

But Roper, are you saying that schools should be accountable just like other businesses? Come on, that's not how the liberal play book says they are supposed to be!

Which is another good reason for government to get out of education and for education to trasition to a market enterprise.

I think church schools would be a good idea. And by that I mean it would be a good idea if many churches began schools. They could charge the middle class people enough that they could then educate underprivileged kids. Since you'd know when paying tuition that you were supporting the poor, it wouldn't be theft through taxes.
Besides, as long as we're dreaming, if they reduced our taxes by the amount that goes towards education (through local, state, and federal governments), then most people would have plenty of money with which to pay for school (as long as they used the money for that).

When my bro-in-law was going to CU Boulder, he used to hate going to the campus library, because there was a whole wall covered with gay porn, in support of gay and lesbian student relations... if you were bothered by it, you were considered homophobic. Boulder takes pride in being "progressive".

I also don't think market forces are the panacea that you claim they are, Roper. Microsoft is a chief proponent of special "gay rights" ammendments here in Washington State...

But if you don't like Microsoft's political agenda, you can simply refuse to buy their products, if it's that big of an issue to you.

If you don't like your local school's political agenda, you can't just stop paying taxes to support it.

When schools are market-based, they have to compete for business.  That means they offer choices that appeal to their customers.  And if they tick off enough of their customers with practices that violate community standards, they feel the immediate financial consequence.

But again, it's wishful thinking far removed from the reality in which we live.  So I do what I can for the 20 kids who are in my care for about seven hours each day.

That is such a trite answer, Roper. You try to keep from buying Microsoft.

Gradually weaning myself off.  There are a lot of really excellent open source apps out there with better functionality.  Started my computer experience in the 80s with a Mac.  Thinking about switching back, especially because that's what they use in our district's elementary schools.  And no, I wont run MS Office for Mac OS if I do switch back.

The point is still valid:  If you don't like Microsoft, you're not forced to buy MS products.

No. I don't think the point is valid. Apple has just as progressive an agenda, as do most corporate entity, so good luck even purchasing hardware.

I work with Open Source apps all day long... and I can tell you it is not trivial to opt out of superior tools "to send a message" that no one will hear.
