So, we have this great 10 year old cat named Jack. The kids carry him around and sit on him and nothing ever bothers him. Well we have 3 kids, and at the time of this story they were 4, 3, and 1 years old. The middle one is Eli. Eli really loves chapstick. LOVES it. He kept asking to use my chapstick and then losing it. So finally one day I showed him where in the bathroom I keep my chapstick and how he could use it whenever he wanted but he needed to put it right back in the drawer when he was done.
Last year on Mother's Day, we were having the typical rush around and try to get ready for Church with everyone crying and carrying on. My two boys were fighting over the toy in the cereal box. I was trying to nurse my little one at the same time I was putting on my make-up. Everything was a mess and everyone had long forgotten that this was a special day to honor me and the amazing job that is motherhood.
We finally got the older child and the baby loaded in the car and I am looking for Eli. I had searched everywhere and I finally round the corner to go into the bathroom, and there was Eli. He was applying my chapstick very carefully to Jack's . . rear end. Eli looked right into my eyes and said "chapped." Now if you have a cat, you know that he was right--their little butts do look pretty chapped. And, frankly, Jack didn't seem to mind. And the only question to really ask at that point was whether it was the FIRST time Eli had done that to the cat's behind or the hundredth.
And THAT is my favorite Mother's Day moment because it reminds us that no matter how hard we try to civilize these glorious little creatures, there will always be that day when you realize they've been using your chapstick on the cat's butt

This year my kids cleaned the carpets in the major living areas of our home for Mother's Day... I prefer something home made or a gift of service and my kids have been very creative in finding things that I would never guess (I was VERY surprise yesterday when I got home from work to see the project starting.)
Tomorrow the boys (and hubby) will cook and also give daughter the day off, since she almost always cooks... My kids are such great kids and I don't have any idea what I every did right to be so blessed by Father to have my particular kids (and yes... we have a few "cat-butt" stories in there too in our family,) but they are now almost "all growed up" and I REALLY appreciate the kind of people they are today and how much they bless my life.
These days, Mother's Day is about reminding myself how blessed I am to still be here with my family as a mother...

Hey, I'll have to ask me sisters about that... they are in the Toledo Stake, so it probably made big news down there. Something about a disagreement that turned into a brawl / riot at a family style buffett restaurant. Sounds like a typical family reunion!
Wow, this quote was stunning: "Mrs. Oliver said Sophia Lewandowski eventually fell onto Mr. Oliver and he fell off his seat onto the floor. A table fell on Mrs. Oliver. Mr. Oliver and Sophia Lewandowski were both hit with a metal napkin dispenser."
How awful, the 90 year old mom falls on the man who is paralyzed, and they both get hit w/a napkin dispenser! Sad.
have you all heard about the 91 year old man in Michigan who was beat up by a car thief. Luckily, he supposedly didn't get hurt. I saw a few seconds of the video, it was terrible to see. Here is a link to an article dedicated to those who don't like links!! http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=3175187&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312
Man's inhumanity to man is horrible- how sad in the story that it was moms who acted so badly.
