Reverend Al Sharpton on Glenn Beck

Just a head's up that Glenn Beck (CNN Headline News) is on at 7:00 EDT and again at 11:00 (I think.) He has Rev. Sharpton in studio with him and he has an honest and blunt conversation with him regarding his comments about Mormons and Mitt Romney. Very interesting interview. It's the first part of the show. Hurry, you've got five minutes!

That would be interesting, except that we don't get premium TV.

Al Sharpton claims it was all taken out of context, I am not so sure, but lets put it behind us.

He has agreed to meet with Mitt Romney, as well as Elder Nelson and Elder Eyring. That should be interesting. biggrin

These stories are really making the rounds MSNBC has quite a few takeoffs on the theme.  I suppose it could all be called interesting.  Still, I can't help but think that the more the adversary can keep us arguing and divided... thereby also keeping as many men/women as possible from working together he can win a few battles.  No not the war, but oh so many "battles" become a field of honor.

I wish all people could just learn to play nice!  I mean good heavens, go back to the sandbox abnd learn how to share already! Unfortunately, every faction will no doubt serve up their spin on this, and even those like me who only get the news on the net (no TV signal at all) will hear PLENTY of it...  rolleyes

PollyAnna... are you telling me you are DIAL UP in Chino Valley?

I would think you would have cable and high speed internet there.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when Elder Nelson and Elder Eyring explain our belief in God to Al Sharpton.

I think this is going to help Romney. This is going to play out way before the primary and the media and public will hopefully be beyond the mormon thing. After watching Beck last night I don't think Sharpton gets it. His comments are just as offensive as Don Imus's in my opinion but he wouldn't concede that. He didn't see them as bigotted and nothing Beck said seemed to get that through to him.

NOPE... we have DSL Internet, but absolutely NO Television signal by choice into our home.  There is nothing I regret about getting rid of TV in our home, because now we can even "view" Conference on the Internet through BYU-TV's Internet coverage. (I use to miss watching Conference at home... But not enough to get Cable, we just went to the church for years...)  We haven't had a TV signal since our youngest was 4-5, he just turned 17.  It is a miracle how much more we do together and accomplish.  We have a fabulous DVD library. Actually, I have put probably as much of the money we would have saved into purchasing old classic movies and some good family movies.  Cars and I think Over the Hedge were the last new ones we bought...  I am waiting for a couple to come out on DVD right now.  I'd say I probably spend about $30-40 a month on DVDs these days...  If I can get them used I do, but again they were usually release before 1965...

We have a NetFlix subscription and have ordered some of the older TV shows that are acceptable on DVD to watch (Touched By An Angel, Highway top Heaven, The Big Valley, and let's not forget Mary Tyler Moore wink).  Here and there we see some of the newer movies, and old standards I havent purchased yet... but I am not afraid to turn off a movie the minute it offends me, and what we find acceptable is a lot less than many of our friends... so I only listen to a few people about what movies to see... (I am a real prude when it comes bringing something into my home)  to tell you the truth my best source of information is 3 or 4 friends of other faiths that say to me... something like "Don't go see ______, that movie uses the Lord's name so much it will drive you crazy..." "Oh yeah, XYZ had one scene in it that you wouldn't want to see, so you better pass on that one..."  It's funny cause one of those friends didn't even notice either problem before and now she becomes very offended by the usage of the Lord's name in every medium, she is a wonderful lady with high standards, but she desensitized, and now that she is watching for it, she sees it a lot, and is weaning herself too, she says.  I like to imagine that I am doing some subtle missionary work with that friend...??? (Although she has turned down the missionaries twice so far, but who knows about someday in the future???)

Anyway...  We have pretty good services overall where we are, but we are out in nowhere land to some extent, (still don't have mail delivery out our way...) and the only reason we got DSL is cause a big fancy subdivision was put in not too far from our property, and they brought DSL to them... so we also got to tap in.  Before we had DSL we had a wireless service, not unlike dish internet, but not dish... that was high-speed... not quite as good as DSL and it was way more expensive, but with hubby's ongoing educational needs (he is a RN/NP) it's necessary... and now my kids all need it for college too, the youngest is taking some HS-dual credit classes online too...

Polly; We're in the same boat as you. My kids have more or less grown up without TeeVee. We still watch way too much of it, because of all the movies we still get at home. I'd love to kick the habit completely.

I used to think that families that gave up TV were monastic freaks. But last year we turned off our DirecTV subscription. Theoretically we could set up an antenna and get broadcast TV, but we don't. We too buy films and subscribe to Netflix.
Do we occasionally miss it? Darn tootin. But on the whole we're much happier.

When we first moved to rural AZ from big city UT we could not even get Cable...  For the first couple years you would think my kids were deprived, every time they went anywhere that had TV they were GLUED...  But now they really couldn't care less.  In fact with the speed that they put DVDs out the kids hardly miss anything they really want to see...  Well we can't get the 4th season of JAG yet... but you know, "good thing happen to thems that waits"... the timing for when to watch stuff can be chosen by us and there are NO commercials!!!  We really don't watch that much.  It Friday and the kids just got done cleaning the dining room carpet for me for Mother's Day (tomorrow they are cleaning the other 2 main rooms with carpet...)

To my thinking TV is not an all bad thing... but the average person gives that box way too much power over them... Computers... same thing.  We make tools/useful inventions that are great and helpful and give us enjoyment... and them allow them to USE us... Silly humans... weirdface

It is generally good to stop and think about what you ARE actually saying, especially during highly CHARGED occasions... ALL politicians AND other celebrity could use more practice at this valuable skill.

ashamed

I am amazed at how often I personally open my mouth and insert my foot, so perhaps I should not be so quick to judge other's blunders... but then I haven't ever been on a show piped to the world. I do wish that those that are "on air" would think before engaging their lip-flapping ability a bit more... Some of these comments really sound dumb...

ETA: sorry about the derail...
