We've been trying to teach our children not to feed the baby anything other than just one food per week. That way if there's a food allergy or bad reaction we know which foods are good and which are not safe.
Well yesterday my daughter Hannah (age 5) was trying to feed the baby Lionel something she was not supposed to feed her. Her mother reminded her that she was not supposed to feed the baby random foods, because it might cause a food allergy and could be very serious.
Hannah persisted, however. Finally Hannah responded knowing that she was okay to feed Lionel everything, because, as she explained, "I fed Lionel sourdough bread and he didn't die."
Taken aback, that Hannah had gone behind her back to experiment with the baby in this way, Mom says, "And what if he HAD died, then what?"
At this Hannah gave mom a worried look, as though she'd never even considered this possibility.
I find it amusing that my daughter is a little scientist experimenting on her little brother, but I'm pretty sure I've also just verified I shouldn't be leaving Hannah and Lionel alone in a room together... seeing as how death really isn't a huge concern for either one of them.

Don't worry. It'll get worse. Just think of the great things you did to your siblings. And after reading your posts for.... a long time, I know that you considered your siblings as subjects.
Whoa. Nobody who's under like 10 gets to feed the baby anything in my house. They may, on occasion, hold the bottle, but that's it. I have a 4 and 2 yo that would loooove to feed the baby lots of stuff- grapes, toast, beads, rocks... So we just have the blanket rule. Don't feed the baby. I guess this stuff overly scares me. I think of a gummy piece of sourdough bread getting lodged in his throat... mom's putting stuff in the dryer or whatever... yikes.
