Bowling

How well do you guys bowl? My company had a bowling activity last night, and I was very inconsistent. It seemed that mostly I was getting gutter balls mixed in with some strikes and splits. My 11 year old outbowled both me and his mom, who had never been bowling.

I STINK at bowling. I used to be good, back in 2nd grade when I was in a bowling league. :) but in the last few years I have developed something of an RSI which I can keep in control most of the time but bowling really makes it hurt and shows the weakness in my wrist.

However, I'm pretty decent on Wii bowling. :D

When I was in school in Wisconsin, a buddy of mine would pick me up and we'd head over to some lanes and do "midnight bowling" Each of us would get a lane next to each other and we'd bowl as many games as fast as we could. It was pretty hillarious but fun. I broke 250 on one of those games. I got into a groove and got almost all strikes until the very end.

Most of the time I average about 150 if my back is feeling good.

I don't ever throw it in the gutter, but I rarely get strikes (perhaps one or two a game). I was taught to bowl in a PE class in High School, so I know how to do it, without feeling like a total fool.  But honestly, I've never really found it all that great... and now with the Wii, why would you bother to go out to a bowling alley?

you NEVER throw it in the gutter, ray? I guess there are bumpers for that purpose....

I'm pretty bad at bowling. Once I bowled a 19...in 10 frames. Usually my average is 65-80. My highest score ever was a 95...and I actually won that game. Everyone else was having the worst game of their lives though, so they didn't even care that it was the best game of my life. I do have bowling socks because I forgot socks when I went to the alley once. (I was wearing flip flops. The only time I bowl is in the summer, and wearing shoes in the summer in this kind of heat is ridiculous!)

It's not hard to miss the gutter. Though I suppose sometimes on one of those splits... it might happen... Heck if the alley's worth its salt, just placing the ball in the center of the lane and giving it a little nudge will get the ball down without getting it in the gutter. My kids used to do this all the time, it cracks me up. biggrin

Glumirk,

I knew there was a story behind those fancy stripped socks in your avatar, BOWLING SOCKS!

Wahooo!

In order for me to graduate from high school I needed another PE credit, which it happened I could get from one of BYU's home bowling courses. It was more work than I thought it would be. I had to record 13 games, and take several online tests.

I was atrocious at bowling before (lucky to get a score of 30), now I am only somewhat bad (can get around 100).

lol! Actually, my bowling socks aren't nearly as cool! I got those ones for $1 at Target. The bowling socks are white socks that are the tacky-short socks (where they aren't really short, but they aren't long) and have blue lips that sparkle around the top. Yeah...
