Johnny Hart, the creator of the comic strip B.C., has passed away. I posted this in the political discussions area because many articles about his passing note that he was a controversial figure because he had strong christian themes in some of his strips. There are those who are practically gleeful at his passing because he will no longer be evangelizing christianity in his strips. This seems wrong to me. When someone dies, it is a sad thing. But the world is so hostile to Christianity that some feel that this cartoonist's passing is a cause to celebrate. There are many cartoons out there that strongly advocate a certain viewpoint. But I'm sure that if, for instance, the creator of Doonesbury passed away liberals would be up in arms if conservatives started celebrating.

I always enjoyed the strip BC. Read it every day in the paper. He will be missed. I've read that his children may continue the strip as they were doing a lot of the drawing already. I always enjoyed finding a religious or moral message especially around the holidays in his strip. He will be missed.
awe! I love that comic! It's one of my favorites! I hope they do continue it. I think he had a very good way of pointing out what many people don't even notice.

I haven't subscribed to a newspaper in over 20 years.... but I remember him as a kid in the Deseret News.

Mahonri, I don't subscribe to a newspaper either. I get all my comics on the net. From what I've read since, Johnny Hart's kids plan to continue his strip indefinitely. If they can maintain the same quality, that's great. If not, they're just milking it for all it's worth.

Haven't subscribed to a newspaper since I was in graduate school. Don't have the time to read them, and it is a waste of money and ends up just being a mess. We used to get the daily paper when I was growing up. I loved reading the comics, particularly Sunday comics.
I never really understood BC when I was little, and as an adult haven't really seen it much (for the above reason). As a kid, I thought there were times some of it was pretty suggestive. I preferred Hagar the Horrible, Beetle Bailey, and Wizard of Id. My brother liked BC, Peanuts, and Andy Capp. I had a girl pen pal who was really into Ziggy.
