Ros's green thread

Because I don't think it's fair for Ray to get to start all the threads I'm going to add my own.

This one is the "I'm going to London!!! Yay for me!!" thread.

I plan to run around like a crazy person seeing everything I can for 4 days, have some blood puddin' and kidney pie and not once think about school or church callings.

You're all welcome to be green with envy now

I am green with envy. I want to visit England some day.

I gave up my trip to England this year for Mitt Romney.

And my trip to Cancun the year after...

And the RV I was planning to buy.

I was in London for a day. It's very beautiful. I hope you enjoy yourself. I'm green with moss... growing on me from all the drizzly rain up here... so Nyah!!!

Btw, Ros, we expect a full report when you get back, and if you get a chance to see the Wizard of Id while you're out there, give him a big hug and kiss from me.

Huggies to you too!!

Hey, remember not to ask for a napkin at a restaurant...  I understand you could get some interesting looks (with the nod of recognition... 'Oh, another Yank')

Learn the lingo.

A napkin, or nappie, is a disposable diaper...  So ask for one at the restaurant and you may actually turn green if they actually give you one...

Congrats on the trip.  I'm hoping some day to go to Mother England and see where my ancestors once fought off the plague carts ("Bring out your dead, Bring out your dead") and where Arthor King of the Who once roamed.  Have a great time.

Would we get to see all the sites where impotant religious things actually happened?  For reals?

Oh wait...different scam, sorry.

good one, bok!

My friend is serving a mission in England. Although the past couple transfers he's actually been in Wales. It'd be nice to go to Europe someday, but I think I'd rather see a few more states first. I've never been further east than New Mexico, nor further North than Utah....I have been to Hawaii though! That and Nevada became my 5th and 6th ticks on my "List of States I have been to" list.

Girl, you need to do some travelin' and see a bit of the world! AZ, NM, CA, HI, UT, and NV -- while all their own rights have unique offerings -- hardly make up a well rounded view of the nation, let alone world!

By the time I was 19 1/2, I had 25 states and three foreign nations under my belt! Okay, so I've only added one new state to that total since then and no new foreign nations...

yeah, I'm almost 21! I really wanted to go to school in New York, and almost made it there with scholarship and everything, but I just needed to come here, and it's far enough from home, and now I know a few reasons why here was really the best place for me to come. But yeah, I'm all up for putting more states on my list. In fact, I won a trip to the Bahamas, where all I have to pay is certain taxes (which amounts to just under $300 for a trip for two) to go there, and somehow find myself in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. So my boyfriend and I were thinking that if the marriage thing is really going to happen, we'd love to drive to Florida and take our time getting there (if we have the time to spare) and then go on the trip to the Bahamas. I have to redeem the trip by next February, so I still have some time. If not with him, with someone else. Or just not go....

But yeah, I totally want to see more of my own country before going foreign. Most of my country is foreign to me!

Yeah, some of those states can be pretty weird. Can you imagine, there are states where the drivers actually turn off their brights as you approach? It's like being in the twilight zone or something.

What do I ask for in a resturaunt if I don't want a diaper but do want to wipe my mouth?

Here's a useful link for translating between American English and British English.

There are states where people don't?

So, why is it that when a Brit in America says the kid needs a clean 'nappie' we all think it's charming but when we ask for a napkin in a resturaunt in London we're "another Yank?"

Generality made of "another Yank".

But, if it is halfway true, I presume it would be about as quaint and charming to them as it would be to us for a Brit to come up and say they are fagged out...
