Love to Discuss

I do like honest political discussions.  I am using a different user name here than at Nauvoo as I may show more of my political colors than I do there and also it may give me a fresh start.  Chances are people will figure out who I am.  I believe in being respectful so my changing my identity is not so that I can be ruthless or anything lol.

I am a little mixed up politically.  I was raised to be a strong Democrat.  In fact, I think I was reared a lot more on politically idealogy in my home rather than religion.  I did have a religious background going to religious schools of my former faith.  I do agree with a lot in the Democratic party and am still registered as such.  However, I have shifted to the right in some issues.  I want to make it clear that I have always been Pro-life and there are Pro-life Democrats who support that party because of the humanitarian work that the party does.

Growing up, my parents and I helped campaign for a Stake Senator.  Those were exciting times as I went to letter stuffing parties, helped parents put up signs, had people in our home for the campaign so the State Senator could speak.  I realized i put Stake Senator earlier--must be my LDS background.  I thoroughly enjoyed going to political debates.

I can think on both sides of an issue.  I find politics very stimulating but find too much of it dirty or without substance in the media.  I want facts and not spin!

I am a people person.  I am not very black and white in how I view people.  I like to think that I can see good in people that may be hidden to others as I have ways of getting to know them.

Okay, I guess I will say who I am as it is silly not to do so.  Those from Nauvoo know me better as Abby76 but I have also gone by bkb, Olivia86, my name is Barb

Welcome to Bountiful! Hopefully you'll have a good time here. You may find yourself frequently disagreeing with what people say, but so far we have usually kept it fairly civil. Heck, I don't even agree with my moderators' political opinions frequently.

Thank you for the welcome! I think I will agree with much that is said here. And when I don't I will play nice. :)

Oh goody, another demorat to beat up on. LOL Just kidding, welcome to the forum. I think you will find that while people can be pretty vigorous in their views that we do it with respect and can still remain friends. Roper and I have some pretty different views on a couple topics but we still get along pretty good. I subscribe some of this to the fact that he lives in the Republic of Texas and most Texans are pretty good folks. Must be something in the water.

Welcome abby76 / zealia!

Don't listen too much to our Jason (not the same Jason as at the place across the river -- aka Nauvoo) or you may end up with a year's supply of soothing, creamy Tomacolatte tomacolate. Of course, for our shareholders, that would be a good thing!

Roper, though he doesn't carry a big stick or use it, keeps us all in line by the fact he has a mean roundhouse kick whenever he has to open up a Texas sized can of Whoop A$#. He is our resident Chuck Norris body double.

And Arbilad, yeah, he sometimes doesn't even agree with himself!

Ray is raybid here too! (Would you expect anything less?)

Bok is as sweet and sassy here as she is elsewhere.  She even has an emoticon suited just for her!

Euphrasie is simply sweet (see her description of her avatar for explanation). She hasn't tried to cook any books here yet.

Mahonri is our designated driver when it comes to imbibing in the cold coffee solely for medicinal purposes.

And of course, there is me. As harmless and yet as annoying as ever. Loved by many, tolerated by others, loathed by few.

Most everyone here gets along pretty well. If we have disagreements, we work things out and move on from there.

Thank you Jason!

Catherder, I really love the sense of community that is found here and your creative analysis of it all. This really is a great place. I should have joined sooner!

Books should always be cooked on a low temperature to avoid charring.

Believe me the charring is a dead giveaway to an IRS auditor.

Guess I better get busy, if that's all.

Welcome Barb!! (Yay! Abby!)

I would like to welcome you personally. I hope you post some of your political poetry up on the site! ;) I'm a volunteer communist and American Patriot. I believe in any political group that causes a knee-jerk negative reaction to at least 2/3rds of the country. I hate third parties, love Michael Medved, want Romney to win in '08 just because he's a mormon and I can't wait to hear your perspective on all sorts of interesting social issues.

Yay!  Zealia/Abby/Barb is here!   I guess we just better atart calling you Zealia.

I don't know why the Chuck Norris thing persists.  I've never given anyone here a roundhouse kick to the face.  I guess some members have felt like that when hit with my infallible reasoning, but I always show an increase of love afterwards lest they esteem me to be their enemy

I think you'll like it here.  To me, the best part of Bountiful is that depite the many differences in personalities and political beliefs here, this feels like a close-knit community.  I've remarked before that I feel closer to many of the members here than I do to many of the members in my ward.

Bienvenidos!

I think he was only mentioning people with a page count over 200. Either that, or he's awed by people with a much deeper understanding of politics. Not everyone can be a political science major like you!

Sorry, can't see under the breath mask...  please, don't cry... it may short out some of the electrical circuits.

Hmm, wouldn't it be more appropriate to say "What am I, chopped tater?

Chopped tater--good one.

Arbi: It's a good thing we aren't all Poli Sci majors. It wouldn't be good for the economy if we all had unmarketable degrees.

I didn't know you cared so much Roper....I'm touched.  Either that or indigestion.  Let me pray about it.  Yep..I'm feeling a burning in my foot.  It's either true or I have athlete's foot.

EQ presidency can't have beards?  Wow.  Yet more church rules I've broken.  I'm surprised they even pass the sacrament to me anymore.  Why doesn't anyone tell me these things?

Stake President asked us to prayerfully consider that we ask the young men to shave to go on missions and serve, and that as a presidency setting an example for these young men might be a boon. He didn't compel, he strongly encouraged... I was okay with it, I'd actually shaved a couple days before I got the call, because a little birdy told me things might be changing and I felt it was something I could do to prepare... weird how these promptings come...

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I think I knew everybody here except Jason from Nauvoo.
I better check the board and see what's up.
