The Right to Bare Arms in church...

No this isn't a thread about modesty... instead it's a thread about that kid who brings the Bo Staff to ward and stake dances and does his martial arts routines to the groovy music. Does this kid only exist in my ward or do you know a kid like this in your own ward?

Were you one of those kids? Oh yeah, and Did you play Dungeons and Dragons as a youth?

Or do dances that are ethnically incorrect...

I remember a kid at Youth Conference one year when I was a teen try and do a solo dance routine to some Michael Jackson music.  Kid was brave, but it went over about like a lead balloon to all us other "righteous" youth... yeah, makes a lot of sense... we liked his dance songs at dances (there was still a fair amount of ambiguity as to what he was "really" singing about so youth and leaders could claim plausible deniability), but have an "outsider" do "evil" breakdancing stuff... well...

Not proud of the reaction he got in general from the kids in the stakes... kids can be cruel...  I was a spiritual leader amongst the youth, and my demeanor probably spoke volumes to my peers as opposed to the verbal response and congratulations I gave the fellow when he finished...

I used to carry a pocket knife with me when I was a teen, be it to church or school.  Just part of what I carried in my pocket (with key chain, wallet, comb)... but that is no longer PC, so I don't carry one unless I'm on a Scout campout now... could even be fired if I had one on my person at work...

Where is Triumph the Insult Comic Dog when you need him.  This guy is one huge nerd.  I am a recovering martial artist who trainined in weapons and I never took them anywhere like that nor did I do demonstrations.  Someone needs to pull this young man aside and tell him there is a proper time and place for practicing your bo staff.  He needs this to be done in such a way that he doesn't feel diminished for demonstrating his "skills".  It may be that his Rex Kwon Do instructor encourages this sort of thing.  Maybe he could be encouraged to use his other skills such as drawing pictures of girls where he spends and hour on the shading on their lip.

The Bo Staff is a great weapon but I prefer nunchucks because of the danger element of hitting oneself in the head with the hard wood handles and seeing stars.

In a couple of years, I'm going to buy some white SHORT SLEEVED shirts and during the summer, that's what I'm going to wear.  In AZ in the Summer we should have the right to bare arms.

dude...you don't even have to wait until summer. It's been over 80 the past two days and I'm about ready to turn on the A/C! Usually we have more "window" weather where opening the windows helps...but it's hot here! I've already thrown all my shoes into the closet and pulled out the flip flops!

AC went on last night... and it's on tonight too. It would be hard to live without it.

You... make... me... sick... (figuratively speaking only of course )

We had two inches of snow Wednesday night. Today, the high is supposed to be about 45 F. That is the warmest it will have been for several months.

We've been turning on the AC too. Of course, then I forget to switch it back to heat before going to bed, and poor little baby girl kicked off her blankets...

That's what blanket sleepers are for. They can't kick off something that they're wearing, can they?

we're too cheap to turn on the A/C yet and just opened teh windows. It was 80 degrees inside last night though. I thought I was going to die! It's gonna be a hot summer...and you guys are going to be enjoying temperate weather while we melt, so it all works out in the end. Unless anyone on here is a snowbird...

Temperate weather?! Thou has not been in an area where it gets to be 80 - 90 degrees with relative humidity of 60, 70, 80, 90 percent or more, hast thou?

The body can tolerate "dry" heat a lot better than where there is a lot of humidity, I guarantee.

In June it's a dry heat. Then comes the monsoon, where you have 100+ degree weather with that kind of humidity. It usually starts early to mid July. Statistically the monsoon season "starts" when the average daily dewpoint is 55 degrees and higher for like 3 days or so. (http://ag.arizona.edu/maricopa/garden/html/weather/monsoon.htm)

click the different tabs on this site to learn more:
http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/twc/monsoon/monsoon_info.php

We are still less humid on average than you are, I'm sure, but we have the monsoonal weather at the peak of the hot season. That means that our 60% humidity in 110 degree weather is just dangerous. Luckily we all get used to the heat instead of dying in it, but there are still people who die every summer from the heat because they don't drink enough water and are just out in it too much.

You know it's hot when an uncovered, unheated pool is 90+ degrees when you go swimming at night (because it's pretty dangerous to be outside too much during the day).

I'm actually from a town that's more temperate than here...they are only over 100 degrees for maybe 2 weeks during the summer and would get a lot more monsoonal rain. Here it's just miserable...although I love watching the thunderstorms. That has to be my absolute favorite season, even though it does get hot. It just feels nice to dance and run around in the rain! As long as the lightning isn't close...

Hey CH,

Were getting the pool ready... kids are going to go swimming tomorrow.

So, go forth and puke in that bucket you keep.  (figuratively... of course!)

Well

I wear light weight pajammies in the summer when it's hot
I wear my flannel nighties in the winter when it's not
and sometimes in the spring time and some times in the fall
I jump between the covers with nothing on at all

yeah, we can probably get the slip-n-slide and wading pool out for the kids by the time it warms up sufficiently in late June... just in time for the dog days of summer that will last (if anything like last year) until mid September when it starts to get cold again. Remember last summer, crazymom? Ugh that was terrible. Dry (as in little precip) yet humid and really hot for over two months...
