Get them while you can, AEB reintroduced

Don't know if any of you are into shooting, but the Assault Weapons Ban has been reintroduced and is worse than the original.  If you want or like firearms the government does not want you to have, better get them while you still can.  I would imagine it will get passed and Bush sign off on it.

Taken from a posting on Zion's Camp:

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h110-1022

It is all contained in this innocuous line:

"`(J) A frame or receiver that is identical to, or based substantially on the frame or receiver of, a firearm described in any of subparagraphs (A) through (I) or (L)."

Just in case you missed subparagraphs (A-C):

`(A) The following rifles or copies or duplicates thereof:
`(i) AK, AKM, AKS, AK-47, AK-74, ARM, MAK90, Misr, NHM 90, NHM 91, SA 85, SA 93, VEPR;
`(ii) AR-10;
`(iii) AR-15, Bushmaster XM15, Armalite M15, or Olympic Arms PCR;
`(iv) AR70;
`(v) Calico Liberty;
`(vi) Dragunov SVD Sniper Rifle or Dragunov SVU;
`(vii) Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, or FNC;
`(viii) Hi-Point Carbine;
`(ix) HK-91, HK-93, HK-94, or HK-PSG-1;
`(x) Kel-Tec Sub Rifle;
`(xi) M1 Carbine;
`(xii) Saiga;
`(xiii) SAR-8, SAR-4800;
`(xiv) SKS with detachable magazine;
`(xv) SLG 95;
`(xvi) SLR 95 or 96;
`(xvii) Steyr AUG;
`(xviii) Sturm, Ruger Mini-14;
`(xix) Tavor;
`(xx) Thompson 1927, Thompson M1, or Thompson 1927 Commando; or
`(xxi) Uzi, Galil and Uzi Sporter, Galil Sporter, or Galil Sniper Rifle (Galatz)

`(B) The following pistols or copies or duplicates thereof:
`(i) Calico M-110;
`(ii) MAC-10, MAC-11, or MPA3;
`(iii) Olympic Arms OA;
`(iv) TEC-9, TEC-DC9, TEC-22 Scorpion, or AB-10; or
`(v) Uzi.

`(C) The following shotguns or copies or duplicates thereof:
`(i) Armscor 30 BG;
`(ii) SPAS 12 or LAW 12;
`(iii) Striker 12; or
`(iv) Streetsweeper.

This is not about cosmetics anymore. This is about banning the manufacture of almost every semiautomatic longarm since the Garand. There is no "post-ban" configuration if the ban is on the receiver.

This prohibits the new sale or manufacture of ANY AR-15 rifles, even the neutered California ones. It also includes this gem:

(K) A conversion kit.

(37) Conversion Kit- The term `conversion kit' means any part or combination of parts designed and intended for use in converting a firearm into a semiautomatic assault weapon, and any combination of parts from which a semiautomatic assault weapon can be assembled if the parts are in the possession or under the control of a person.

So that means no more lower parts kits and no more builds. This could mean no more collapsing stocks.

Let's not forget perhaps the furthest reaching clause that could be easily abused by a zealous Attorney General:

"`(L) A semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General. In making the determination, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any Federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.'."

It looks like they learned from the last ban and are trying to cover their "loopholes."

Edit: Someone has mentioned that the (37) "Conversion Kit" subparagraph can be interpreted to ban ALL parts that can be used to build an AR or other banned rifles.

That could mean no uppers, no barrels, no handguards, nothing that could be used towards an AR build.

Heaven forbid we should use our Constitution granted freedoms. This is incremental tyranny. They can't get away with a total gun ban yet in most of the US, so they ban them bit by bit.

Hey it looks like the rest of the nation will be like Nazifornia soon!  Welcome to my world!

Of course how many actual crimes will be prevented because of this law:  0

But it will make people feel good.  And feelings are more important than actual results.  Lets ban red cars while were at it since red cars account for the majority of speeding tickets which means more accidents and more people getting killed.  It makes about as much sense.

Just an FYI.  The governator has appointed a member of the Sierra Club to our state Fish and Game board.  His previous appointment was some yahoo that has gone fishing a couple of times.  They are proposing a ban on lead ammunition for large game hunting because they are finding elevated levels of lead in the endangered Condors.  Of course no other animals including vultures, eagles, hawks, crows, etc seem to be having any problems.  Since they can't figure out any other culprit they are blaming hunters saying that the leftovers after and animal is taken must be passing lead on to the condors.  Of course there is no proof that this is the source or any way that you could prove it.  And if you question the science behind any of it your labeled as a extreme hunting nut.  It includes shotguns, rifles, and even muzzle loading muskets that we have been shooting in this country since the Pilgrims stepped off the boat.  No other carrion eating animal is being effected but the wording of the ban is already in the proposed 2006-2007 regulations.  They've managed to close large sections of the California coast to recreational fishermen already using dubious science.  They go off of fish counts made by divers who are sympathetic to the anti fishing crowd.

I hear that Condor tastes like chicken...maybe I'll have to find out for myself.

"Now you know, and knowing is half the battle."

Qieu the GI JOE Theme Song.

Frankly, I would love to own an Uzi, an AK, and a Thompson. Expensive to shoot but fun on the range!
