Do you ride?

I grew up riding dirt bikes. Sold my last one before leaving for my mission. I ride road bikes now. I currently have an old Honda V-65 muscle bike. I used it for commuting when I was in the military. Now I use it mostly for short weekend rides. It needs maintenance on a regular basis, and the wrenchin-to-ridin ratio is not favorable anymore.

I want to sell it and get a tourer. Not old enough to buy a Wing yet--looking at something more along the lines of Honda STX, Yamaha FJR, Triumph Sprint ST, BMW R1200R.

Any fellow riders here? Anyone ridden a sport tourer?

I'm replying though I imagine this thread will be relocated.  I don't ride and don't know if I ever will.  After my BIL had a motorcyle wreck and my wife and I were the first ones to the hospital to see the damage, my wife would have a hard time with my riding a motorcycle.  My mom's husband has had a Gold Wing for some time and they go riding fairly regular.  Prior to my mom marrying him I never pictured her on a motorcycle but now she's running around on one with her husband as well as on her very own ATV.  I guess the motorcyle and the person make a difference.

I've wanted one of those rice rocket bikes forever with the leather outfit to match the color of the bike.  My wife says I can have one when the last kid leaves home.  I probably won't care by then.  If she ever leaves me that the first thing I'm buying!

hmm...I don't know what to vote for. My boyfriend has a scooter that we would ride around. Currently there's something wrong with the starter. Well, not the starter, but the part that clicks is getting old and worn. All I know is it's an '85 Honda. I never imagined myself on a vehicle with two wheels and and an engine, but the scooter is pretty fun, especially since even before we were dating he'd give me a ride to work on it.

At one point before I was even a twinkle in my mother's eye, my dad had a motorcycle.  But then his brother in law wrecked it while taking it out for a joyride.  I'm pretty sure they kept the whole incident from my Grandma too...

My dad had motorcycles off and on.  They were street bikes.  He would take me on them when I was a kid with my little helmet.  My mom didn't like it too much and didn't enjoy riding with him herself because he always wanted to show off his riding abilities.

The raw freedom of a motorcycle appeals to me. Unfortunately the 99% chance of death or serious maimings does not...

Ray, actually you're far less likely to be in an accident on a motorcycle than you are in a car.  The problem is that when you do get in an accident, the injuries are much more serious.

There are those who have, and those who will.  I have.  Twice.  I always wear a full-face helmet, leather jacket, gloves, heavy jeans, and boots.  Worst was a broken leg, some road rash, and a burn from the exhaust pipe.  I'll ride until my arthritic old hands can no longer twist the throttle.

Fortunately, my parents-in-law are Goldwing riders.  They've toured most of the US on their Wing.  That means Sister Roper grew up riding behind daddy, and she still loves to ride.

Well ain't that just the most heart-warming thing you've ever heard? I say! This calls for a joke:

Q. So what's the difference between a Hoover Vacuum Cleaner and a Harley Davidson Motorcycle?

A. The place where you put the dirtbag.

If it wasn't for the full-face helmet my BIL's wreck would have been much worse.  It was bad enough as it was.

Sounds like you are well setup for some cruising in the future!
