If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen! - Samuel Adams
I always thought I hated beards, but my boyfriend grows one occasionally, and I like it when he keeps it nice and evenly trimmed. He looks pretty good, and I think there's a quirky personality that comes with the beard. His dad always had a beard, until he was called into the High Council, so I think that's why the idea is so attractive to him.
My brother can't grow a beard worth anything, but he tries...

When my father-in-law was set apart as a temple worker, he was asked to shave off his beard. He did. What other callings require one to be clean-shaven? I know a bishop in our stake who has a moustache.
eta: My beard is medium to short. I just want to know how much longer to grow it in order to avoid the unpleasant callings. I figure it's a better option than committing some grievous sin.

We invite Bishoprics and High Councilors to be clean shaven. (you know, follow the brethren) We even have a few that look like Elder Oaks!
I knew a SP with a mustache. He lasted the full 9 years.

I usually grow a short to medium length beard from the beginning of October to the end of December as part of my costume for our Ward's Christmas concert / live nativity event / gift to the community thing we do (see other thread). I started growing it again about 10 days ago when the cold spell started around here, but Sunday morning I realized it just looked grubby and wasn't keeping my face any warmer, so off it came again.
I think, that much like brethren who hold certain callings are invited to be clean shaven, brethren who are called into Scouting callings should be invited to grow facial hair. There needs to be that air of outdoorsmany, fur trapper, hunter, mountain man, explorer thing in order to help instill that love of the outdoors in a manly fashion to the AP holders. Note, this invitation should not, I repeat, should not be extended to the good sisters who work with the cub scouts and webelos...
p.s. The only time I ever saw even the beginnings of facial hair on my Dad (who shaved a couple times a day it seemed, in the morning to go to work, and then after dinner before heading off on Church calling stuff) was after a two week high adventure canoe trip where the Dads didn't shave (Stake President amongst them)... unfortunately for my Dad, since he had never trained his whiskers to grow into a beard, it didn't grow into anything but patchy short whiskers. Luckily, Mom was not in town when we got back, so he could go in the house, and I got a photo of him before he trimmed it off in the garage (ostensibly so the hair wouldn't mess the bathroom up).

I dislike shaving and get skin irritations from it. I have had a mustache and goatee in the past. The main reason I don't have facial hair now is because by daughter and wife don't like the tickling and scratching when I kiss them.
Wul I've seen a sister or two that could use a shave, but as a general rule...

I've had counselors in Bishopric who were bearded. Beards don't bother me.
Scruff is annoying and, let's be honest, painful. But beards..they're good. After all, my mother in law has one. Hey!? They let her work in the temple!..?

Never had one and never wanted to. If I don't shave one day then it gets pretty thick anyway. I grew up on a farm down the road from a military base. I didn't see too much facial hair growing up and still don't. I think what really did it for me was seeing these guys with food stuck in their beards at resturants and stuff. I also keep my hair pretty short also.
