Venezuela Could Control Food Distribution Under Draft Decree

It appears Chavez and Co. are going to take control of the basic commodities necessary for sustaining life of the people there.  I wonder what this means for the good members of the Church down there that may have a year's supply or part of a year's supply stored up.  "The Hoarder Is A Criminal" indeed.  But it isn't the people, but him and his government who are the criminals and have caused the problems.  So, it is likely since the shortages (are sure fallout of socialist / communist central planning and control) have been going on for a couple years, maybe not so many of the church members who had a year's supply stored up have much left.  I wonder if they will be viewed as hoarders or enemies of the state for having food storage.

Anyone have any insight into how the Church has been treated over the past couple years by Chavez?

I didn't think it was possible for Chavez to mess up Venezuela faster than he already was, now I find I was wrong.

This is frightening stuff... I wondered the same thing as you, Arbi... How many mormons will be seen as criminals because they have food storage? I had an English teacher in High school that hinted that that was her feeling about mormons and their food storage...

Actually, that was Cat wondering that, not me. But it occurred to me as well. I just didn't post it.
If you control the food distribution, you have a stranglehold on the people. No one will dare oppose you if you can make them starve. Stalin proved that in Ukraine.
Of course, in the US they'll have a harder time getting rid of hoarders.

Hold on folks, He's just getting started.  I'm sure being LDS will eventually be called a crime.  Most dictators eventually either outlaw all religion or force everyone into a state controlled religion.  He will see the church as an American institution requiring loyalty he wants for himself.  That and the key teaching of "Free Agency" will get the religion banned.  Just my prediction for the future.

Wouldn't be suprised. He kicked all the missionaries out, claiming they were american spies.

I don't think he kicked out "all" the missionaries.  I think he simply refused to renew visas for those missionaries from the U.S. in the country as well as refused to allow entry for new missionaries from the U.S.  At the time this occured, and I may be wrong, the U.S. missionaries were the minority of those serving in Venezuela anyway.
