Zimbabwe would be funny if it weren't so tragic. Mugabe threw out the rich white farmers and gave the land, mostly, to his cronies, who proceeded to use it badly. It wasn't an issue of white or black. He was throwing out experienced, productive farmers, and giving their facilities, mostly, to people who had never farmed before in their life. Then he cut off all possibility of foreign investment when he outlawed private ownership of land, and only let people "lease" their own land from the government. What bank is going to finance a mortage when you only have a lease on the property? If you default, they can't reposess anything.
He has refused food assistance when his own country couldn't produce enough.
