....But They Can't Leave It Alone....
Permalink Closed

Howdy folks:

I think we should just leave Nauvoo alone.

They've decided what they want their forum to be, and it's not the cup of tea for a lot of us here.

A few of us here go over there and try to get a topic started about this that or the other regarding "world" events; trying to push the "no political discussions" envelope over there.

Let's just stop.

They don't want to talk about it, so why make them?  As much as we care for them, and as much as some of them need to hear what some of us have to say, they just don't want to hear it.  No matter how right you are, they will not listen if we try to constantly harp on it and shove it down their throats  (sorry, had to get that cliche in).

Some of these topics are dire and very important.  But they participants there just don't care at this point in their lives.

I remember as a young man thinking about perhaps serving a mission.  When it came from me, the thoughts were all positive.  But then, I'd get in a priesthood meeting or a discussion with a type A family member who was trying to pressure me about a mission.  I would immediately throw my ears back like Balaam's ass, and all the good mission thoughts I had flew out the window.  Eventually, I decided to go on a mission, in spite of those harping about missions.  How ironic that their well-meaning preachings had the exact opposite effect of what they intended.

I believe that MANY people are like that on MANY topics.  They have to come to things slowly and gently, and when we're always trying to sneak in political discussions, they're on to us, and their ears are thrown back.

I'd suggest we all participate more here about (in our estimation) earth shattering things.  Participate at Nauvoo about things that only give us warm fuzzies.

If we feel something is important, start a thread about it here.  Perhaps we could send the link to one or two people at Nauvoo or other sites who might find the topic interesting, as an invitation.  Then drop it.

You can't force people to think about things that they don't want to, even if we think it is the most important thing in the universe.  YOU JUST CAN'T.

And for those of us who got banned from there.  I'm sorry.  I am glad you are here, and we can talk as we like here.

Hoss

Sometimes I think I'm the only person in the whole universe who knows what "Leave it alone" means...

...not that I do it...

We love you Hoss, if you need a big hug, consider yourself hugged...

Okay.  I'll do my best.    Can't guarantee that I won't get bored and still go and lurk there from time to time and see some topic that peaks my interest.

Afterall, Nauvoo addiction is kind of like the memory of one's first real crush and/or the first girl you kissed as a teen... despite how unrealistic it is to try and reconcile it with reality, it is still a part of who you are and your makeup.

Should we start a recovery program?  Perhaps something with twelve steps tied into seven habits as defined by the people we'll meet in heaven after determining exactly where our cheese is.

Hoss is very right - I don't want this to become a Nauvoo bashing forum. Besides, Gracie has been very nice in keeping bashing of Bountiful to a minimum at Nauvoo.
Bountiful and Nauvoo have separate goals. I created this forum specifically so that there would be a place to discuss political issues from an LDS perspective, as I saw a need for a forum like that. I still read and participate in Nauvoo because there are some discussions that simply are more interesting over there.
But our purposes do overlap somewhat. I am very gratified that people here have discussed issues of importance to them, and gotten thoughtful, sometimes inspired answers. Glumirk, for instance, is asking very serious and important questions about engagement and marriage. It warms my heart that the people on this forum can be a resource for her in that.

And also... Participate at Nauvoo about things that only give us warm fuzzies.

 I don't think that's entirely fair.

"Life's not fair!"  -- quote character of Big Jimmie from the movie Down and Derby

(sorry, couldn't resist)

"They've decided what they want their forum to be..."

"They don't want to talk about it..."

"...they just don't want to hear it..."

Who is they?

I think that points have been made, and it would be in our best interests if we dropped this discussion, as well as other similar discussions.
